I strongly like the Petey renewal for several reasons:
1. Reasonably team-friendly cap hit (vs cap management on other teams)
2. One less distraction for the Petey and the team
3. Canucks can finally move on to other player contracts (ie Hronek)
4. Allvin/Rutherford flexing their negotiating muscle
5. Incoming players know Canucks have a commitment to win
I dislike:
1. Taking this long to get it done
When you weigh out Nylander contract at $11.5 you start there then need to add value to Pettersson who plays center, has already had a 100 point season and is 2 years younger than Nylander it put Petterssons Market value starting at $12M. This contract will look amazing in the future. Not to mention he is doing what he is doing already on a 7.3M contract 💀 everything about this kid has been top shelf.
petey needs better wingers. maybe hoglander will be alright, but mikheyev doesn't help petey's game. petey's contract is high but fair.
Myers out is a BLESSING and most likely Jake Guentzel cash
I am glad that Petey finally showed his cards and admitted that he wanted to stay here all along more than anything!
This deal is actually home friendly over the long haul and he will def be out performing the cost of the contract within 5 years

I would have been happy if he turned into Canucks first 100 million dollar man… the fact that he's only 100 grand over Nylander and we got him locked for 8 years… management knocked this contract to the moon. Lock up Hronek and I'm elated…
