Trade deadline day is always a few days before the trade deadline
Clearing cap space AND adding an RHD that the Flyers don't want with a late 1st is great asset management. Adding that to swapping in a legit 2C in Casey for Bowen with Sean as his replacement is brilliant
Not to make this about the Leafs but I'm making it about the Leafs. Almost every trade rumor about the Leafs has been trash, All the players mentioned have either signed with their teams or has been traded.
Funnily enough, Rachel Dorrie tweeted she thinks Colorado are in on Guentzel or Lindholm… Just imagine
I loved Bo and still do and he could be great for the Sabres, I wish him all the best. But he has not really lived up to that 4th overall status at all and the Avs needed a good C badly. So honestly I don't mind these moves at all.
Also hopefully this also means Malinski can get a regular spot on the D-core soon [if we cannot keep Walker], cause I loved what I have seen so far
Damn didn't expect the Djurgården jersey. Love it.
Mittelstedt setting up Nuch and Lehk on the second line could be huge!
This is what is considered a blockbuster deal? Cmon man. This is a move to free up cap space where we give up a first round draft pick for a mid to low end D man and then an even trade between two teams.
anaheim had pronger, neidermayer, and jackman was 5th overall. pretty close.
@MapleLeafs right now…. Zzzz
Johansen does somewhat make sense for Philadelpiha, though I have to wonder if he's on his way to Boston or Toronto at a $2m cap hit.
The Avs are not fooling around….
Wow .
Walker plus a 5th for a 1st round pick and Johanssan Middlestat for Byrum that's a steal for Buffalo
Trade deadline day should be fun lol
Johansen at $4M over pay. Flipping him again with retained salary dropping it to $2M. Now contenders (and even non contenders because he has 2 years left) are calling.
Could the Sean Walker package be flipped as part of a package to the Senators for Chychrun?
I think Briere has more up his sleeves in the next 2 – 3 days.
As an avs fan these trades are quite good for the team, although I will miss Byram. People are dissing Mittelstadt but the guy plays with speed and skill, the avalanches bread and butter and should make a great 2C for the team. The winger depth is still good with or without Landy (although if he returned it'd be much better) and Sean Walker is an interesting two way piece to pair with the offensively minded Girard, almost like a mini Makar/Toews line allowing Girard to take more risks like he tends to do.
As an avs fan I love this. Got exactly what we needed, and I don't think MacFarland is done, through these deals the avs actually gain cap space, so we'll see.
I am going to miss Bryam – amazing player who is always noticeable on the ice and plays like Makar-light.
With Girard back to form though, we need more offensive depth instead of defense. Good move as much as I’ll cry myself to sleep because of it
Anyone who watched Colorado during their cup run can attest to how good Byram is. He stepped in for Girard and showed his ceiling and then some. Sucks to see his injuries really catching up to him
Absolutely chaotic day for the avs
3 firsts and a fourth on the Sabres D core.
We have had a shallow pool at center since the cup win. Missing Kadri, and Johansen didnt fill those shoes. Byram can be an excellent defender. Penalties have been a big issue for him this season. VERY excited to see Middlestadt with an A on his chest.
Buffalo has 3 first overalls. They have Erik Johnson too
This pisses me off, considering the Jets are ahead of them, but our stupid cheap ass GM just stand on his hand and let other teams get better
First time listening to this guy talk and I'm not watching, just listening, and I swear I thought I was listening to Seth Rogen talk hockey
Give em two first round picks haha. Win the cup again it won't matter
Beefing up the D is the best thing the Av's could do. Well done. Best wishes to Byram.
Great job on the breakdown , a lot of key points
The Av's have a knack for unloading players right before they go downhill. Hopefully Byram bucks the trend and has a long and fruitful career!
All right, time to add one more branch to the Matt Duchene Trade Tree.
If the Avs arent done, they go in one of two directions from here…. add even more offense or deal for goaltending.
People are massively overhyping the whole “Dahlin, Power, Byram” thing.
There is no way one of those guys isn’t playing on the right and they also have Samuelsson who is also left handed but plays mostly on the right. This team is going to get destroyed in right side defensive zone puck battles that could cost them games.
COL had Makar, EJ and Byram. I think that's all top 4 picks on one d core. But not same side.
STL had MacInnis, Pronger and Jackman. I believe that's all top picks no?
I would have preferred Tarasenko or Rielly Smith or something like that, over Midlestat. But I guess they need someone to take face offs until Gabe is back.
Dahlin is even better suited on the right side anyways. So their D Core could look like this:
Byram – Dahlin
Power – R. Johnson
Samuelsson – Clifton
Or you can also look at it as the Sabres have too many LHD and another trade involving one of them (not Dahlin) could be made to bring in a forward or a legit RHD
i really feel like joe sakic is the best gm atm?
Byram has also been playing his off-side this year, so he could fill out the top 4 really well moving forward for Buff
So the Avs arguably upgrade at 2 major positions AND clear up cap space at the same time? lmao… what kind of magic is CMac working with?
Btw… the Duchene Trade-Tree sprouts a new leaf apparently 🙂
Who has had that many top picks on a single defense? Technically Colorado in 2022… Erik Johnson, Makar, and Byram
As a Sabres fan, its tough to see Mittsy go. Purely from a “he’s been here through it all” kind of way. However Byram 1 for 1 is pretty nuts
Im so surprised by these trades for the Avs. Losing Byram and getting Walker???? Is that really an upgrade? Mittelstadt makes sense for the future assuming he shows growth but now idk. I think the Avs are worse on the back end and about the same on Fwd.
EDIT: I was not familiar with Mittelstadt's game. He has played well this year for a struggling Sabre team so its definitely an upgrade on Johansen. Still Byram vs Walker is a loss on the back end imo.
Just think the Avs have Nuke coming back from player assistance any day, they have a young kid from Russia coming over (Kovalenko), and they might have Landy back for the playoffs. With these moves show me a more well rounded team in the NHL.
“How do you get two firsts on the same d-core?” – the Sabres currently have 3. Erik Johnson (won’t be there long, will be gone by the deadline)
Sabres putting too much faith in prospects panning out. They’re banking on Matthew Savoie magically being nhl ready by training camp, or Peyton Krebs REALLY turning it up offensively. This organization sucks.
Steve freaking out over Buffalo having 3 Top-4 picks on their d-corp when they actually have 4. They still have Erik Johnson who was 1OA
