« It was an honor to be a Sabre »

Remember when GMKA spent every press conference telling fans he wants people that want to be here. By all reports we’ve heard multiple times how Mitts wanted to be here. So I guess that was just talk then?

I guess what I just don’t understand the most is why people/the org felt we couldn’t afford him/needed to change things up. TOR has $21m on two centers, most teams in the league are sitting around $19-21m for their 3Cs. Signing Mitts to the Tage/Cozens deal sets up right around that range at $21m. We wouldn’t be overpaying for that position. This is the benefit you get when you RISK signing Tage/Cozens 1 year early to team friendly deals. So you can do things like this. With Quinn’s injury hes now setup for a bridge deal and will get his big deal once Skinner comes off the cap. I don’t think there’s really any cap issues here.

Byram is a really good player who was KEY to Colorado’s stanley cup run in 2022. Hes had a down year this year but being 22 and with his skillset I’m not worried about that. What worries me is he had very bad concussion issues and it he gets one more his career could be in jeopardy. Hes also been in the league for 4 years and his most amount of games played was this year at 55 games. Hes hurt quite a lot.

IDK. I don’t think this is terrible but it’s just another trade where again the best player in the deal is not coming to the Sabres and we all we have is hope that Byram turns it around and can do what hes never done before in the past: stay healthy.

It makes me wonder, did we trade this year just for the sake of needing to trade something?
