@Canadiens de Montréal

This was in the wake of Toronto getting Edmundson so there’s one less « playoff » D available but also one less team that would be interested in Savard

A first plus or don’t move him. His leadership is worth more than anything less

I’m hearing that talk is intensifying.

  4. Arber and I are both very upset by this development.

Sell to the highest bidder, there’s no point to hold on to him.

Those are the kind of tough trades you have to think about. Do you think the young guys grew enough to brace for the loss of their leader or do you want to keep him another full year for maybe the same return pushed a year away (25/26 picks instead of 24/25)?

If we’re able to send him away without retention while taking back one 2024 salary back (So no money on our books next year and an open retention slot) for a protected 1st of 2025 I’d take it but those would be my personal limits. Keeping the extra retention slot opens possibilities for Armia and Allen to be retained this summer instead of one or the other making it easier to clear roster spots.

Example of a trade: Savard to Dallas for Hakanpaa, Smith and 2025 1st. Two UFA24 without NTCs clearing 2.5 on their cap this year for Savard which would be their 3RD this year and when Tanev becomes UFA this year he slots in at 2RD for 2025.

Who are the teams interested? No point into speculating the return if we have no idea who the teams are and what draft and prospect capital they have…

It’s gotta be really good return. With Big Play Dave in the lineup we were almost a playoff team. When he was hurt we STUNK.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence. David Savard is an important part of this team’s success. If we manage to add a couple players next year, and get a healthy Dach back we might be in the playoffs. But we probably need David Savard.

My sense is that no team would want to trade their 1st round picks. I mean, look at the Edmundson trade. There’s no way Brad Treliving never inquired about David Savard. Also, Colorado put up a big risk in trading their 2025th first rd. + Ryan Johansen to get Sean Walker.

Maybe there are some but at this point, I can possibly say Savard’s not going anywhere.

We should keep Savard because it’s going to be the new subban/markov duo with Xhekaj !

What’s up with fans being so adamant the Habs keep him?

He’s a 3rd pair dman who won’t be here when the team is ready to compete. The easiest type of player to replace. What am I missing?

    Sell. Everything.

Habs can sign new vets this summer. They’re all interchangeable.

Were people not calling savard the tank commander last year? Now it seems it would take mcdavid for some people to trade him.

  14. I feel like he could actually get a decent return.

  15. GMs around the league saw his elite goal scoring ability on display against Nashville, and knew they had to pick up the phone.

Get a first and improve your lottery odds in one smart move Kent!

  17. Extreme-Leather7748

If he’s traded it’s because it’s a deal we can’t refuse or KH has full confidence in our D prospects. I doubt we trade him

  18. big6135

Some gms get desperate at trade deadline, so if one of them thinks they need him enough to give a first rounder, I can’t see Hughes refuse. we still have a spot to retain salary.
