Won't know till next year
All magic comes with a price, I guess
If you're trading guentzel. Then you might as well trade everyone and do a proper rebuild.
Losing Ponomarev sucks for us but overall I’d say a B+ trade for us
Great acquisition for Carolina.
No Blake, Nadeau, Nikishin dealt, dub for Carolina
Dubas got his guy
Crosby is pretty dejected in the interview. I think he will ask to be traded this summer.
I feel like people who say we (Canes) fleeced Pittsburgh aren't familiar with the prospects we have. Generally the Canes have done well drafting and developing players in the AHL who become regulars in NHL.
Those conditions are huge on the picks. If the Canes meet either condition I'm totally good with losing more though!
As a Ranger fan I’m glad we didn’t match this with either Othmann or Perreault… way too rich for my blood for the rental; congrats to Canes fans. It’s a good deal for both clubs
I'm here for your thoughts, not some randos in the comments
This trade is two pieces away from being a madness board.
As a Caniac, I love this trade.
It's a rental, but good trade. For both , pens were goin to lose guentzel so they got some prospects and bunting .
If only the Pens had performed well on a regular basis this may not have happened
Four Seasons from now we might have half the answers
Penguins got fleeced, prospects are rated # 7 # 9 and # 10 in their system… they're all small undersized forwards who aren't even close to being NHL ready. Dubas is in full bend over and take it mode.
This is the first time in 2 years I've been truly livid with Chris Drury. How could you not beat this? I get if you aren't that high on him, but to just let him go to your biggest threat is nuts. You might as well sign your own death warrant given that Carolina just solved their only weakness, which was the Rangers only advantage over them.
It looks fair if Guentzel signs an extension. Ponomarov is real and young, so that looks like the big win for the Pens. Another win: Bunting’s contract moving. He was fine in Carolina, but not at value per $.
Any Pens fan saying this is a fleece has no clue that they didn't even touch our top 4 prospects. Always possible these guys make a jump, but we didn't have to give up Nikishin, Morrow, Sorum, or Nadeau for this.
As a Canes fan, I'll take this trade all day long.
Sad to see him go. Decent return I'd say, certainly more than some "clear 1st rounders" got but it's not really the direction I was hoping for. But hey, at least it's a bunch of prospects, maybe Wilkes-Barre will get better 😀
This might be a good move for the pens. Hear me out. Although we didn’t get much besides 3 mid prospects (Ponomarev & Koivunen look decent) and a 2nd rd(potential 1st.) and a conditional 5th. Our SJS is top 10 protected. Loosing Guentzle will help us tank. And we could potentially get 2 1st rounders (one in the top 10) and a 1st if Carolina wins the cup.
Then, we could re sign Guentzle; and if we do . We won the trade. I’m kinda upset we moved on from Smith. The guy was only 23 and still had a lot of skill and potential. He led the farm team in scoring as a defenseman.
Dubai has a love/hate relationship with Burning or what?
Totally happy with the trade we really needed a scorer going into the playoffs and I feel it was a fair trade hopefully they can sign him long term
Worst trade EVER for the pens. We continue to be a laughing stock
I think This is a HUGE mistake. Dubas strikes again.
As a Penguins fan, the trade at face value does seem a little underwhelming. None of those prospects are ranked Top 5, but 2 of them could be playing on the team as early as next year which can be a good thing for the team depth as we've seen is pretty shallow. Obviously if Carolina wins the Cup, that return can look a little sweeter. This was better than loosing Jake for nothing. Bunting does not replace Guentzel, but I would've rather have gotten him this past off-season than Reilly Smith so I'm happy with getting him. At this point, I kinda hope the Pens just tank for the rest of the year so they can get their top 10 1st pick back from San Jose has part of the Karlsson trade. To Canes fans: Congratulations! You're getting a really good player with outstanding hockey IQ and heart. He could potentially begin to flame out within a few seasons but for now, should help them win it all.
As soon as I saw Ponomarev it was too costly. I would have been fine if it was Jack Drury instead. I have always felt Ponomarev should be in Jacks spot on the Canes. He is NHL ready. Like Suzuki he seams board in the AHL.
The fact that Adamn Henrique pulled a first round pick, but the best playoff scorer on the market could only pull a second(First if Carolina's curse ends) is crazy
Pretty even trade.
I’m just glad Vancouver didn’t try to match this. Our organizational depth is still not quite where it needs to be
I doubt this is an overpay.
Good deal both sides. Now Crosby to Avs to win with Nate.
This could go either way. It could be like the Jordan Staal trade or the Jagr trade.
Every year, Carolina comes up with a big blockbuster trade. So far it hasn't worked and I expect this not to work either. The East is stacked with good teams that Carolina needs to get past. I don't think they have what it takes. Guentzel might turn out being a rental. If so then Carolina overpaid.
In the meantime, Drury's time is running out. The egg is getting closer and closer to his face.
Seeing Guentzel leave is sad, but getting Bunting in return with some scrubs… ehhh. Bunting, who is a less scoring-talented Tom Wilson, makes me want to switch my favorite team.
dubas trying to cement himself as the worst gm in the league
Sid didn't get a winger on par with Guentzel, but who knows what Bunting can do on a line with Crosby and/or Malkin. One of their few prospects is killing it right now in Scranton, Samuel Poulin is finally showing he is first round material after the injuries and the other issues, they might as well bring him up for the rest of the season, because I don't see a future where Poulin isn't with the big team next season. Kinda sad about Ty Smith too, last year he put out decent points and +/- and he was one of their other young #1 draft picks they acquired by robbing the other team. I can sense that after the blowout against the Caps yesterday that they might have thrown the towel, even if the 3 teams ahead of em barely are (including the Caps), NJ are on a downward spiral and the NYI are very "eh" and PIT still have games in hand. I'm sad Jake's gone for sure…but that's a lot of young talent and they needed more of that.
What about the Blackhawks are we going to get kapo , we could use 6 more wins. Can you trade Connor Murphy, on IR
Fire Sullivan now.
I feel like the penguins did well here
Hockey guy: It's just Pon-o-mar-ev. He's been amazing with the Wolves since 2022
Apparently the Canes are also in on Kuznetsov
Bunting may explode in Pittsburgh due to being under 30 snd very motivated.
