The trade was garbage for the pens. They were better off resigning Jake.
I would have tried to get rid of some of the garbage we have signed to long term contracts and kept the one good player on the team not named Sid.
with Malkin, Letang and Jarry on the team, Penguins will never make the playoff. I said that october 1st 2023….
Jake + Ty for a 2nd is a crap deal. Lesser players got 1st's in trades this year. Middling prospects and a 3rd liner (less than a year younger than Jake) that has bad defensive stats on a not great contract don't soften the blow..
This trade was made last summer. It just took a long time to sort out the details of where and for what. Guentzal will be a $10 M player on the free market. Penguins lost the chance to bring him back when Dubas traded for Karlsson and his $10M contract. Pittsburg got a player who may reach 50 points this year and is a career minus 96. Now they will be cap tight next year and could not commit to signing Guentzal. So the got what they could. Karlsson was a bad deal then and a worse deal now. Only took Dubas one year to show why the Leafs dumped him.
I don’t hate this trade but the Ruhwedel trade I absolutely despise not that I think oh what will the team be without him it’s that’s all you could do?
I dislike the trade. A lot. I felt better about the Canucks and Bruins trade rumors tbh.

Carolina has to go to the Stanley cup finals for that pick to be a 1. So change it to a 2nd round and 5th round immediately

Yeah I don't know, the more I think about it this trade is pretty bad for Pittsburgh. Gave up a 40 goal scorer for a few c tier prospects and not even a definite first round pick, only a conditional one. Jake's a rental, I get it, but thing is Pittsburgh had to at least get a definite first round pick I think, and they didn't.

I don't mind the players so much, it's the fact that we didn't get a guaranteed 1st rd pick.
Also if Dubas doesn't dump off an old guy like Eller, Acciari, or Reilly Smith by 3pm to get younger like he said he wanted to, this deadline is a failure if you ask me.
That trade was bullshit. It is a scattershot bunch of crap. Look… they have a core that needs to win now and instead they got projects who won't pan out… Let's add they are tiny guys…not one over 6 ft and 185… in a league that is getting bigger. Go watch Crosby's reaction to this… he knows that this team is headed to shit.

Way too early to judge the prospects. But the Pens certainly added to their prospect pool. The guys we got seem close and still have plenty of upside.
