Asset management is part of the job, but it’s not the **only** part of the job.

Marty and Hughes way with words really does give me comfort in where this org is going

I feel like trading Savard would likely have tanked the mood in the locker room. According to Arpon Basu he’s pretty much universally loved in the room, so keeping him around makes the most sense IMO. Let him and Matheson mentor the young D-men, they’ll be even better next season.

    Fucking PREACH.

I love this management team. They are pragmatic, and forthright, but also have a sense of loyalty and understand value beyond dollar signs.

Thank you Kent for saying what I would say if I were anywhere near that articulate

« His value to us is worth a first-round pick, but not a second. »

i’m really glad this new era of habs management is taking development more seriously. they don’t want to rush anything and are focused on keeping the right vets to help them create a solid young core, love that they don’t rush into decisions either. seems like every decision is calculated

  9. If Savard does get traded it’ll be next season’s TDL, he can go on a playoff run then sign back in the offseason.

stark contrast to the mantra in Vegas:

“fuck you, pack your shit, you’re traded”

A year from now, trading him would make much more sense for all the reasons he said here.

I wholeheartedly trust this management group! It’s such a breath of fresh air for this old diehard Habs fan, was so tired of “meet the new boss, same as the old boss”!

Hughes has really brought respect back to the GM role. It’s becoming more and more apparent why hiring a former player agent was actually a really good decision. The way he talks about players. He’s aware of the business aspects but he cares a lot about people and the team culture.

The questions that remain are how his transactions go when he’s a buyer instead of a seller and his drafting.

  14. He took a discount to come home to mtl. Huges wants to build a rep for vets, knowing he will do right by them. We want to compete next year. Savard helps that goal and is a great guy to have for our young D (especially our long term defensive guys like Struble, X, Reinbacher…etc) It would have been a bad idea all around to move him.

What every rational fan has already been saying. Common sense.
