No, let the kid live his own life, not directly in the shadow of his father.

They absolutely should, however, I think he will be selected ahead of Calgary’s selection.

The Emilio Petterson trade highlighted how shallow our prospect group’s center depth is. I’d rather see the team target someone at that position.
Re: the legacy and reputation of the name, I’m sure that Tij, Jarome, and the draft team are going to work with the player to decide if the fit is right. If he doesn’t want to live with that pressure in Calgary, that’s completely fair.
If Yakemchuk or Parekh do fall, it would be tempting to draft them, but Conroy’s focus on trading for D prospects indicates to me that they aren’t targeting D for the draft. NGL, Yakemchuk would be **really** hard to pass up. I doubt he drops to 10+.
DangerRanger_21
If he’s best player available when it’s the flames turn to draft then yes… you pick him, if there is a better player still available then no
yeastneast
It wouldn’t be a Tij Iginla thread without someone implying he doesn’t want to be here because of the pressure of his dads legacy.
He doesn’t have to play hockey if he’s afraid of that… go be an accountant. The legacy will follow the kid anywhere he goes, and the kid will be fine anywhere he goes.
mtbryder130
Unless someone much better falls to the flames’ draft position, and assuming Jarome and Connie have talked about it with him and he is ok with it…I think you have to take him.
Imagine Makar and Iggy Smalls on the same team as a new arena opens…
MonkeySailor
They seemed destined to pick in that 10th to 14th range, so yeah they absolutely should.
If somehow they fall in the standings and pick in the top 10, top 8, then no, at least not with their own 1st round pick. In that case, take the best centre with their own pick and then try trading Markstrom to the Devils for their 1st to take Iginla.
Maclammy
If it is painfully obvious that he is the best player available when we make our pick then yes, if not then forget about it IMO.

If we’re in the 11 to 15 range where he’s ranked I say 100% go for it, but there are likely better prospects available if we’re drafting in the top 10. As awesome as getting another Iginla in the fold would be, imho Conroy should stick with getting the best prospect available.

K, here’s the plan. Win the lotto with our own picks me take Celabrini. Trade up with our othet pick and take Tij. In the Marky Trade make sure we take back Dawson Mercer. *…success!*

Hot take, I don’t care if there’s a better player we could choose, I want Tij

Really need a center or two. Can’t draft someone on sentimentality alone. If he’s the best player by the time its flames turn to pick, then you pick him. But if there’s a better option at center, then obviously you pick the centerman. Seriously, don’t get hung up on getting someone because you like their grandpa. You make your picks based on what’s best for the logo stitched on the front, not the name on the back.

Ginger goalie, Iginla on the wing. We are so back.

I’m a Canucks fan but this popped up on my feed. You should definitely NOT take Iginla. I don’t need another Iggy absolutely ventilating my Canucks for the next two decades.
In all seriousness, it would be so cool to see Tij in a Flames uniform. I don’t think the draft will line up that way with where you are expected to pick, but if the Flames are able to snag another 1st in the 15-20 range before the deadline it seems like a no brainer if he is still available. I don’t think it makes sense to burn a top 10 pick on him if that is where your own 1st ends up, unless there’s a big run on forwards and he is the BPA.

I’d say no. I wish him the best but that’s almost a no win situation.

The only 2 players I would consider drafting before Iginla (assuming we don’t win the lottery and get Celebrini) are Lindstrom and Catton. Both of which are centers with 1C potential, which is the position we most desperately need to fill. If the choice is between one of the many solid defensemen that could be available around our pick in this draft and Iggy I would pick Iggy.
However it really is worth noting the pressure he could be under playing for the Flames.
X-Filer
Without hesitation draft that boy

They should draft who they think is best available with whatever pick they end up getting. If it’s Iggy Jr, go for it.

I don’t want to move up or back for him, or reach more than a spot or two if it is a real opportunity. This is an incredible amount of pressure and can put a bad taste in many people mouths if things don’t work out.
If it’s the right move, then let’s god for it, but we also don’t need to force anything
No_Standard9311
Based on where their pick is slated to end up yeah. If it was trending towards top 10 it’s a debate but they keep winning and keeping in the playoff conversation.
People do this hand wringing over BPA like oh no Craig Button has him ranked 16th and we end up with the 13th overall pick therefore he’s not the best available or something? nah.
Also wouldn’t be surprised if he is taken before we pick anyway.
