I think his argument is that it’s hard to justify drafting Reinbacher with the 5th pick overall when there was better players (forwards) according to most scouts.

We need to get used to hearing this for a couple of years. Defense usually take longer to develop and he’s only in his D+1 year (*1 season after his draft). Look at some of the other highly drafted D in the past few years:
– Heiskanen was a 35-ish pts D until his D+6 season.
– Dahlin had his 1st real big season in his D+5 season.
– Quinn Hughes became a much more complete D around his D+4 or D+5 (he was always elite offensively though).
– Byram had a lot of injury, but he’s in his D+5 and having still hasn’t reach his potential
– Power and Luke Hughes are still adjusting in the NHL in their D+3 season
– Edvinsson and Clarke are still not able to secure a full time job in the NHL in their D+3
– Nemec, Jiricek and Korchinski aren’t breaking anything yet in their D+2

Top four right sided defenders are worth their weight in gold in the NHL. If Reinbacher reaches his projection his trade value alone justifies drafting. You would get a Leonard + something in a trade. Not saying I want him to be traded but I can see why they went with Reinbacher in that slot. I am still not convinced Michkov gets out of the KHL. The political climate over there is not exactly stable and using prior players pre-war are not good comparisons.
