Anyone have details? I’d think he had some CTE going on..

Way too young to die. Godspeed Chris.

  2. hrryyss

I’m going to out on a limb and guess that CTE has something to do with this. Remind me why we love fighting so much?

  3. AxeMcFlow

Shame about Simon, but yay Rempe right?

  4. GolfTime17

This makes me sad. As a kid playing 2K on PS2 I used to always fantasy draft this dude as my teams muscle.

  5. Anishinabeg

Sad. That’s far too young to pass. He was an absolute warrior, and though he definitely made his fair share of poor choices on the ice, he was one of those guys you absolutely hated to play against, but would love to have on your side. He also killed it in the 1999-2000 season, scoring 29 goals. Not bad at all for a « goon ».

I’ll also always have a soft spot for him as one of the few Indigenous players to make it to the NHL and have a long career.

    RIP.

  6. Equivalent_Goose_226

He was actually a pretty good hockey player outside of his aggressive behavior. This is sad. Rest in peace.

  7. MarchAppropriate2095

Will never forget him kicking the penalty box cameras every damn time. RIP.

  8. grunge_forever91

Chris Simon shouldn’t just be remembered as an enforcer, he was also a good NHL player, 29 goals one season, and produced consistently even into the end of his career in the NHL and KHL.

  9. Creative_Beyond_8085

2024 can go into the gutter at this point

  10. Sensitive_Row_7110

Was a treasure for Islanders in down times. Warrior. A pleasure to watch and I hope there is peace for him.

    Sad…. hugely sad.
Saw this guy once after a game against Montréal, at Centre Molson in those time. Long story short, my cousin has a boyfriend who had contact. After the game, we visited the corridor where players were. Simon was there. Simon speak perfectly French with a huge base voice.
He say hi to everybody, he seams enjoying it.
When he was talking, he turned around and hit a kid with his elbow, obviously by accident. He then tell the kid to wait a bit. He came back and took 10 kids to visit the Washington Capitals.
And, as a former Nordiques fan, he will always be remember.
Nice guy who turned badly, sadly.

  12. alovelycardigan

One of the more skilled enforcers. RIP.

I was a kid in the Soo back in the early 90’s and I had a job selling programs before game time. One day while at the old arena, I sitting in an empty dressing room with a few other guys talking and laughing and Chris walked in and chatted with us a bit and someone handed him a stick and a few pucks. He started taking clappers at the opposite wall of the dressing room with that serious/intense stare he has. I was fairly convinced I was about to be killed by a bouncing puck, old arena dressing rooms aren’t very big but it was pretty cool to be there. I was an instant fan of Chris after that day. RIP

  14. HockeyTownHooligan

Whoa I literally used this guy the other day in puckdoku the other day. I always remember him from the 98 finals with the caps vs red wings.

  15. Practical_Papaya7142

Really sad to hear this, RIP to the Chief. He was great in his role and a pretty talented player. Loved by his teammates and many fans as well.

  16. Affectionate_Toe_201

I remember a few years back he had filed for bankruptcy and couldn’t work due to his hockey injuries

  17. SmoothTownsWorstest

Oh no!! Rest in peace, loved watching him play back in the day. Always rooted for him

  18. Imm0rTALDETHSpEctrE

fuck, man…I idolized this dude back in the 90s / 2000s ✌🏼️😭💯 one of the most feared AND skilled enforcers to ever play.

I’ll always remember the 98 SCF when he skated past the Red Wings bench and just glared and pointed his stick left to right like « …any one o’ you muffukkas » ✊🏼🔥

my heart goes out to his family and friends 💯🕊️💖 rest in peace, Chris. thank you for bein you

  19. Spizyweiners

My first time hearing about Chris Simon was when he smacked Ryan Hollweg across the face with his stick. Crazy incident.

  20. stndrdmidnightrocker

Was awesome as a Flame. Threw some heavy fists and scored a couple beauty goals at clutch times.

  21. SpaceGhcst

What a legend RIP. Saw him at the Avs/Wings alumni party before the Stadium Series a few years back, he looked completely different with the shaved head but was one of the most humble & kind people there.

  22. cbcguy84

Damn. Way too young to pass on, RIP big guy
