Last night, I watched the sabres call a timeout on the powerplay. I have *never* seen a timeout like this before.
No pep talk. « Hey guys, the season is on the line so maybe leave every ounce of energy on the ice right now thanks ».
No board out from our « powerplay coach » drawing up a play.
What I sae what a bench of seemingly disinterested players and coaches who have no idea what’s going on.
Any single thing this season taken by itself can be discounted. The mitts comments. The skinner micd up video. The comments from people who have seen the pace of practices. The ATW claim of the players can feel donny being unsure. It’s no longer able to be blamed on things like « oh its just the altitude ». I think this timeout planted me firmly in the fire donny crowd, and it’s not because of a knee-jerk reaction. I’ve seen and heard enough to make the opinion that something isn’t right.

Best part is Cozens called the team out waaayy earlier in the season when there was time, and GMKA denied everything and tried to spin it back to Coz lol. This team will straight up deny what everybody can see with their eyeballs and piss say an entire season before they do anything whatsoever. I understand the need to be patient with your roster, but I’ve never witnessed a bench embody the term “Mickey Mouse” quite like this one. Sad to see all this talent wasted, again. And again. And again…

Yeah, that moment stuck with me as well. Looked like a timeout to let the first unit rest before sending them out again. But by the looks of things the coaches couldn’t even be arsed telling the players which unit was going on, much less gather them up and give them any pointers to help them score. They are just going through the motions.

Donny should’ve been fired months ago and anyone who says otherwise is just not serious about winning hockey games. The guy is a wonderful human, and a great developmental coach, but he is NOT an NHL head coach.
The sad reality is that he will be back next year, with the same assistants. Nothing is going to be changed this off-season and the team will once again be picking 8th in the 2025 NHL draft.
