I don't believe he'll be back BUT……..stranger things have happened. As you said Nick, bridge may be burned?? Should be an interesting summer again!!??
Damn bro why u staring at us like that at the start?😅
Jake is gone. Hoping he comes back over the summer but not holding my breath. Until they let Ned have the helm they will suck. period. Guaranteed 1 first round this year, if they opt for it and probably top 10, and possibly a second. Dump some salary. Bring in some finishers for all the lines. Some big bodied stay at home defensemen, for a three game performance a St. Ivany like player. Finally, for god sake, relieve Jarry of the starting role. How many years is he gonna flop before anyone else will figure this out.

People when they realize jake is not coming back.
Once again you're bang on! Like you said 3 sides to the story! @insidethepenguins
I dont mind his overtly honest interview. I wasn't fully convinced he was coming back anyway. It would have been nice if they signed him instead of trading for a 10mill player but it is what it is. I have to a least give Dubas a chance with the new plan. Hope Sid is signed July 1st.
They probably can do the retool as well as Caps…
I am not mad that jake is trying to get as much annually as possible for his next contract. Some teams will offer him north of $10M/yr, maybe $11M. I just hope that its not the pens. They only have $15M in cap space next year if they cannot shed Smith or Rackell. I did not want the pens to offer the same contract that nylander and pettersson got but i would not be mad if jake signed a 7 year, $63M contract but thats not going to get it done. Its probably more like 7 yr/$80M elsewhere.
what do the pens do with pettersson? Will he extend?
Well Jake, if your friends (the "core" ) weren't being paid so much, maybe the Pens could have met your financial demands. I believe the core gave the Pens a discount to stay together. Go get your big payday. You'll get market value. We'll say hello to you a couple of times a year.
caps equivalency is new math; guentzel was young. should have dumped letang and malkin a few years ago and your age goes down. dude try old math it works
There's no way you retain Sullivan. His system just no longer works with this team.
I appreciate everything Jake Guentzel did with this franchise and wish him the best, but Kyle Dubas made the right choice in not giving in. This team is nowhere near a contender and as everyone knows, is going to be entering a rebuild within the next couple of years. There is no need to put yourself in a whole and sign a player, who will be 30 when next year starts, to a massive contract with a big cap hit. It doesn't make sense for The Penguins to do that and Guentzel , if he did sign that, would be stuck here in the middle of a rebuild. Especially given the fact that the big three are closer to the end of their careers than anything.
Think about, Geno has two years left on a contract after this season and then I would say he's hanging it up, Letang has four years left on a deal in what will probably be his last contract. The next contract Crosby signs, will more than likely be his last one.
CAN NOT RETAIN ANY SALARY ON ANY CONTRACTS!
I don’t understand how we’re not just talking about DOC everyday. That kid is going to be a HUGE part of this teams future. Jake is gone. He’s not coming back. SUCK IT UP NERDS lol. Let’s talk about the actual young guys coming into their own. Jesus Christ man. It’s over, let it go. Beating a dead horse here.
Preds fan here. Ofc its gonna be hard, but tbh I dont understand why Gino and especially LeTang got their contracts extended.
LeTang looks washed to me. Franchise hero or not. But you dont fire Stanley cup heroes, I guess
If the Pens were going to.try and get younger and that was their mission they shouldn't have signed an aging Erik Karlsson with I believe 3 years to go on a 10.million dollar contract. Jake is younger and produced more. Not to mention had chemistry with 87 and there was no doubt they were close. Look at how Sid played in the games leading up to and after the deadline. He did not give a f**k lol. Jake should be hurt! He gave his heart and soul o this franchise. He took a lot of beatings in those games. He and Sid almost carried the Pens past the Caps again in 2018. He has been one of our only offensive constants for many years now. He's done nothing but play and produce he deserved a pay increase..I don't think he was asking for a crippling number but 6 years at 9 mil is fair for him. Lesser players like Rakell and Rust got extensions. They should have re signed him and didn't everything they could too e dead weight out of their lineup this summer.
KD is just subscribing to the #1 rule in the GM handbook.
Rule #1
Keep them young and controllable for as long as possible.
Any coach would’ve been fired after not winning a playoff series since 2018 and not even making the playoffs last season.
Reilly Smith 32, Lars Eller 34, Erik Karlsson 33, Noel Acciari 32, Matt Nieto 31 and long term Graves. Dubas signs all old guys and NOW after he fails he's getting younger at the expense of Jake Guentzel all by himself? The Penguins/Dubas changed their plan after 1 season where Dubas failed and now they have a different plan. The Capitals didn't fire Peter Laviolette they mutually agreed to part ways. If head coach Mike Suckagain comes back next year I'm done with the fake FSG PENS.
I thought it was clear the Pens wanted to keep Jake, but not at the price he wanted. There is no mystery here. The Caps are better managed than the Pens…they chose the right direction. Bringing in Karelsson was a huge mistake…guy has been over rated and overpaid for what, like 10 years already…sometimes you have to think these guys making decisions are clueless
Sully's here till Crosby hangs it up
As long as Sully's the head coach, they will not know success again. Of course, after late season collapses, almost every year since 2018, and quick playoff exits, I expected him to be fired after losing to Montreal in the 2020 play-in round.
Hopefully, Geno's interview, during the Jagr weekend, is his hint that he may retire after this season because he's lost the desire to play.
Both assistant coach need to be let go. Some off the older players need to be traded off. Neito and eller and accari probably try to move on from all off em. Smith rackell probably would stay and bounce back.. a lot off changes needed to be made…
Just fix 5v4 and this is a competent team.
I think everyone is blowing Jake's answer out of porportions. I think he just gave a vague answer because he truly didn't want to answer something that is totally out of his hands.
