  1. Detroit always makes emotional decisions-abdelkatur for example. it has to be a marketing decision by non hockey players. LV is expansion and is always in the hunt. they can't make excuses anymore. That dud coach blahsmell was a good excuse for a high school level coach though. Do a montage where he says " we gotta be better" .. after they lost..like a million to choose from. picking a player because you can make a "Detroit" story out of it is their mo. or michigan or whatever. Even Larkin is mediocre and where's he from? oh yeah michigan

  2. Theres nothing here to worry about unless your in the mindset that this team was expected to win games and be a contender in the playoffs. This was a year that yzerman plugged holes and signed good depth pieces for years to come. Next year maybe we get our drafted up into role playing spots or maybe not and he signs "all star" caliber players but i highly doubt that. Where's the goalie or the defense right now that says yes we can win playoff type games?

  3. The biggest thing people are missing is that, again, we were told to not expect playoffs. We punched well above our weight class this season, and there's still a remote chance we make it in anyway!

With regards to Petry though, I think he absolutely has been a liability for most of the season. That is not to say the random reddit user is correct that we'd have ten more points in the standings if it weren't for Petry (remember, we also signed Holl, who has also been pretty awful for us this season), but no matter how many times you run the simulation, there's always a chance any other player could also screw up. We lost 1-0 in Nashville, but did Petry do anything to prevent any goals against? Did he cover his man at all times? Don't forget, Ras kinda stood there and watched Forsberg shoot the puck that eventually went in, instead of… you know, doing *something*.

So while Petry has been pretty terrible, and has contributed to a number of our losses, I would argue that he's not the only one.

  4. Jeff Petry could be looking bad because the offense might be crap defensively. The offensive guys seem to get out of position and seem to never cover the d-man pinching in. Also can somebody atleast lay the body on anyone? Right about now I don't care if they check their own guys, atleast get a good hit on one. This is frustrating to see a team quit so easily and I put that on the coach.

  5. It’s not all Petrys fault but holy the last few games for him have been absolutely brutal. Worse in context of his decision to pass to nobody when he had an open net to shoot on in the 3rd period against the Caps on Tuesday. He needs to sit for rest of season and hopefully he retires

  6. I saw it from the beginning of the season – dude has zero sense of urgency and completely lackadaisical on the ice…

  7. I really want people to try to defend Lalonde decision to give Petry the second most ice time in the game.

  8. Look, the guy is clearly and quickly nearing the end of his career, however to single him out is pretty ludicrous in my eyes. I see at least four other defensemen on this team that are not consistently doing their job. I’d like to also point out that they have at least 9 forwards that are playing really bad on the defensive side of the puck as well. Right now the Wings defense serves three purposes. 1. Dumping the puck into the zone because no one can consistently control it through the zone. 2. Skating backwards into the d-zone because they just turned the puck over again. 3. Racing to the d-zone because they were caught way out of position. I’m not one of these “fire Lalonde” people yet, but to me this clearly looks like something that could be addressed with coaching. You’re telling me they can’t come up with a rotation or a plan to make a solid entry with the puck?

and Dan Petry was a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, helping them win the 1984 World Series. He was not a player for the Lions.

  9. Yes, it's TRUE! Jeff Petry and Shane Gosthisbare couldn't stop my dad from scoring a goal. That's saying something, since I'm 62 and he had me when he was 42.
