  1. They technically count that as a blocked shot because it was not stopped by the goaltender but rather by a defenseman

SOG is the worst prop out there. Never bet it. They add and take Shots away all the time from people.

That was clearly a blocked shot and not a shot on goal, but if you want to look for inconsistencies in shot-keeping you’re bound to find something basically every game. NHL real-time stat-keeping can be a mess.

  4. propagandavid

Think of it less as « shot on goal » and more as « shot on goalie. »

    Are you betting again, Steve?!

Shots on goal must hit the goalie, or the back of the net to count. Posts don’t count, blocked shots by players don’t count.

The shot has to actually hit the net, not the posts, not the crossbar. The net

So if it doesn’t hit the goalie or go in the net itself, it’s not a shot. It’s a shot ATTEMPT. But not an actual shot on goal

Technically it doesn’t matter where the defender blocks the shot, if it hits the defender rather than the goaltender, it’ll count as a blocked shot. It could be blocked from the slot, or from the blue paint, if the defender blocks it, it won’t count as a shot on goal. I do believe it counts as a “shot attempt” however.

I don’t know, but that defenseman did a beautiful block on it. Fucking hell that was a great play

A Shot on Goal is only a Save or a Goal. If it’s not either it isn’t a SoG.

Bro, or lady! Don’t do that. Save your money… I’m the biggest fucking idiot with finances. Don’t do this to yourself. Stop while you’re ahead.

And don’t hit me with “well, I’ve already won…” Idc. Gambling is dumber than drug addiction. Straight up. I get they both pleasure the same areas of the brain but at least with drugs there’s woman and fun times to be had. Gambling seems like a good way to set yourself up to being pissed off. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Do you, though. Happy Easter to ya.

  12. Initial_Bike77

Because it’s a blocked shot. A shot on goal is either a goal or a save. Goalie didn’t touch it. It’s a blocked shot.

  13. Pikachuintheshower69

Holy shit that was smooth tho

  14. Dry-Honeydew2371

A shot either hits the goalie or goes in. Blocked shots don’t count. Off the posts doesn’t count either.

Bjorky doing Borky things. Damn, I miss having him on our team

  16. This post is adding fuel to the fire for me on how much gambling is ruining shit. It’s genuinely fun and exciting when someone is trying to learn about hockey because they find it interesting and want to become a fan. It’s the complete opposite of that when someone wants to learn about hockey because they put money on it 🙄

As someone else said, maybe don’t bet on a sport you don’t know anything about? Better yet, just don’t bet lol I’m just yelling at clouds and all but it’s kinda sad to see an incredible play like this and someone’s reaction to it is “why did this cost me $100?” (Also sucks more that OP is kind of a dick about things too lol)

  17. Sociolinguisticians

Cause there was a guy in the way, obviously. If there’s a guy in the way you couldn’t shoot on goal, it’s a separate stat called shots on guy in the way or SOGITW.

  18. Jimmy_Broski13

We’re just gonna ignore how incredibly smooth that was? It can’t be counted as a shot… they only call it clutch.

  19. Smart-Breath-1450

    Because it’s a blocked shot.

  20. Cautious-Asparagus61

    Because it’s a blocked shot

  21. cig-nature

22 stopped it, and he’s not the goalie.

    > If a player shoots the puck with the intention of scoring and if that shot would have gone in the net had the goaltender not stopped it, the shot is recorded as a « shot on goal. »

New to hockey, gambling on it. Nice.

  23. boofingZeitgeist

Same reason post shots aren’t counted. Goalie didn’t make the save.
