I understand it’s a huge game and you’d ideally want to start your #1 goalie, but the point of bringing in Fedotov is to give Ersson a break after he’s been playing a ton, not just have him watch from the bench.

Guess we’ll see a goalie split on the back-to-back this weekend.

I’m afraid that merely reading this is going to cause Ersson to collapse from exhaustion.

I’m not surprised based on the fact Fedotov hasn’t even had one full practice yet

If true, I personally think bad call. If he is exhausted let him get break. If he does play and gets bombed then might have well had el gigante.

I swear if he gets shelled again this is on Torts, the guy is gassed and he’s making it worse. Put in Fedotov FFS.

Not the first bad call by torts this season. But let’s hope it’s the last.

Edit: so why the downvotes? Did you think benching coots was necessary???

I feel like this is fine. He’s still new here, and they don’t play again until Friday. He can get more practice time in and he’ll be in net for one of the weekend games.

Subs gonna hate this. I guess we’ve all decided that Fedotov is going to be the next best goalie because he tall.

I’m kidding. I’d love to see Fedotov too. But I do think Ersson hate (or at least distrust) is getting to the extreme at this point. Dude was solid 4/5ths of the year. And the offense has been garbage; as well as the defense in front of him. We just got Seeler back. Drysdale is back tonight. Hopefully we can break this funk and get back to what made us surprise playoff contenders

Don’t see the negative in just giving Fedotov a go. I feel Errson is getting overused and this decision is probably gonna backfire this game.

It’s a tough call. Both are true that Fedotov just got here, has barely practiced, needs to adjust, etc but Ersson is obviously also exhausted. It honestly may not matter either way as they’re both not in top shape. Let’s hope the offense can carry us to a W

I think this is the better of the two options, given our goaltending situation. Ersson is obviously gassed and could surely use the night off. Fedetov on the other hand still has to acclimate to the game, and I’m sure could use more practice with the team to assimilate with the NHL regulation-sized rink and to break in his new equipment enough to feel confident in it. Either way, you can’t afford to have a weak performance from your netminder in this game if you want to stay in the wildcard picture, let alone the metro race.

I guess my point is that neither option makes perfect sense for this game in particular, despite the 3 day break. My guess is, pending his performance tonight, Friday will also be Ersson, and Fedetov will get his NHL debut against Columbus on Saturday for the back-to-back. This gives Fedetov the opportunity to debut against a weaker opponent, and gives Ersson some rest (not playing Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of next week).

Feds doesn’t want to go in until he’s got a fresh new paint job

They are going to injure this guy playing him this many games in a row, he’s clearly fatigued and has been off his game. I get Fedotov is unknown but he played a full season in the KHL, came here late last week, and shouldn’t be rusty at this point. IMO would have been better to play him tonight and give Ersson a week off before this weekend.

The team has to step up and make this an easy win for Ersson, end of story. If they can’t do it for him, they aren’t going to do it for Fedotov.

I feel for Ersson. Dude stepped up after Carter Hart let himself and the team down, and has done a hell of a job. Flyers would not be in Playoff position without him stepping up like he has, for as long as he has.

That being said, he’s clearly gassed and overworked mentally and physically. Guy needs a breather and if he’s going to be thrown out there night after night the defense (and offense really) needs to tighten up and help the guy out.

Could Torts be the first NHL coach to win coach of the year and also have fans calling for his job at the same time?

    I’d say it’s likely.
