  1. Boy, the wheels sure came off the Leafs' wagon, eh? They started out looking pretty good, then just ran out of gas.

  2. I want to show up to the office Christmas party in one of those baby blue Hockey Night in Canada Blazers! Sweet!

  3. I used to go stay at grandma's so I could watch Hockey night in Canada on Saturdays
    The music was the greatest.
    Danny Gallivan is the GOAT

  4. The Leafs played well considering the team they were playing and the shit they were dealing with that season. Never believed they'd be able to take down the Habs, but this series was pretty close even though the Leafs were swept. With a break here and there they could have won the games in Toronto. I was disappointed but proud of their effort. Roger Neilson was a great coach let down by the team brass,a humiliated man who rightfully ended up in the Hall. Is that Claude Mouton making the announcements? Doesn't really sound like him. Is it a sound problem with the old tape?

Love that the uploader leaves in the commercials because we get to see, what I'm pretty sure is
MARTIN SHORT, as one of the t.v. repair men!

    What do you guys think?

Danny Gallivan actually replaced Doug Smith, when he left the job of Hockey Radio announcing. He actually worked for the Canadiens and Montreal Maroons.

He's in the Broadcaster's section of the NHL and CFL HOF.

Who is this Bill Clement guy?

Not much of an Ace on the microphone. Lol

Just kidding. It's actually really cool to see him this young. I guess he was thinking post career already?!?

Great announcer. Pretty good player too! 🙂

I was about to skip this and get to the 3rd period until I heard Dick Irvin say Beaconsfield.

I used to live a few blocks from there and grew up in the West Island. I actually ran in to Dick Irvin, back in 1988 or 89.

I went to John Rennie and there was a shopping center we used to spend our lunch-breaks at.

I was just walking out of the hockey card store, after picking up some OPC hockey card packs and was opening them. For a second I looked up from my card opening and my, (freshly pulled) Brett Hull rookie card.

I did a double-take and saw Mr. Irvin walking towards the card store.

I wanted to be a hockey broadcaster as a teen and had just finished reading his biography, called "Now Back to you Dick"

I didn't have the book on me, as I had just finished it, (bad luck), so I fumbled around. Approached him and got him to sign whatever I pulled from my coat, which was,….

…..a Hockey gambling slip, (called Mise au Jeu).

The government had recently made sport betting legal and even though I was far from the legal age, my friends and I would bet a buck or two on games.

Anyhow, I got a strange look and an autograph from Dick Irvin and still have it, to this day 🙂

One of my friend's had suggested, (after the fact)
that I should have had him sign my Brett Hull rookie, because Dick had seen Mr. Hull play and had commentated some of his games. Lol

Considering the value of the card today, I'm happy I didn't listen to my dim-witted friend. Lol

    Cheers from Montreal

Dick is on the ball, (or Puck) again!

Even though I took French every year of school.

I learned way more from just watching hockey on t.v. , in French.

As a kid I always listened to Dick Irvin on the Radio but since highschool I strictly stick to French T.V. ,when watching games 🙂

    Cheers from Montreal
    Merci beaucoup

P.S. One of my friends was actually part of this program but about 5 years later than this 🙂

  10. I don't mean to get too technical but I think there were some difficulties at the end 😉

For those that have seen the full game, did we miss anything at the end?

The thumbnail showed, what looked like, a brawl at some point!?!

Was that just clickbait or did the signal just go bad as things got good?

    Please lmk.

    Cheers from Montreal

  11. I know it’s old hat, but I’m going to say it again. If somebody greater than Danny Gallivan comes along, I hope the good Lord sees fit to allow me to listen to him because he will be something special.

  12. i no its old time hockey but what the hell is palmateer thinking slashing like that no wonder leafs suck

  13. Sittler, best ever TML captain. I love the vintage games, old commentators were so good. A huge bonus seeing the old commercials.

  14. These Montreal teams were just wasting their time with these other NHL teams. Montreal should have been playing the best Russian teams instead.

  15. The Montreal Canadiens players did not really like Coach Scotty Bowman, but they all knew he was what they needed as coach to hone their incredible talent and depth to win 4 cups in a row (1976-1979) . But lets not forget he was the coach for their 1973 Cup win too.

Interesting side story on Bowman. When on the road he maintained a curfew. He would monitor the hotel lobby to catch any Canadiens players violating curfew.

Peter Mahovilich was on the team then and had a reputation of violating curfew.

Well one night Coach Bowman caught Mahavolich breaking curfew. He was said to give him a $100 fine.

Mahavolich being obstinate reached into his wallet and pulled out a $100 bill. He handed it to Bowman. He then reached back into his wallet and pulled out another $100 bill, handed it to Bowman and supposedly said, "this one is for tomorrow night."…. He was traded to Pittsburgh like within a week as a result.😂😂😂😂😂

  16. Legendary Soviet coach at the time Anatoly Terrisov said this about Bob Gainey, " he was the greatest hockey player of that time." In that his style of play being a defensive forward was near technically perfect. The NHL had to create an award for Best Defensive Forward, just for Bob Gainey, the first winner, called the Frank Selkie trophy.🤔
