I cant tell you how much this stings the people who really care about Hockey in Newfoundland. Especially Leafs fans.
We’ve had to watch « The Leafs » leave town *twice*.
And its never been the fault of the fans. Obviously there are great, maybe insurmountable hurdles for hockey in NL, but it still sucks
It’s a dumb thought, and I’m sure I’ll get down voted due to that but, if the Growlers are completely folding I kinda want PWHL Toronto to take the name and logo. Or maybe some kind of homage to it, it’s just too good branding to go to waste IMO.
That excludes players under contract to the Leafs I would assume.

I’m not well informed but it’s my understanding that ownership hadn’t paid some sort of fee to MLSE as well as another debts they owed to various parties. Still disappointed that the org couldn’t find a way to keep hockey alive on the rock, I hope they can come back and do it the right way themselves

Man this really sucks to hear. Hope all those players find fruitful opportunities with new teams. But those fans deserve some form of a team.
Can I still buy some merch now or is it too late? Would love to have some as momentos.
I know it makes no sense for MLSE to buy the team, but upset they couldn’t at least step in and keep it running for this year and let that extend the time to find a buyer or fold in the off season.

The Rock needs and deserves pro hockey. This is terrible.
I’m pretty shocked that MLSE didn’t jump in and buy the team, at least until the end of the season. I mean if I use my brain instead of my heart to think about that, saving the team til the end of the season probably means taking on and paying off all the debts and buying the team and paying the players and the facilities and so on and so on which probably isn’t worth it when they only had one actual prospect down there.
I really wanted to buy a jersey this year and passed on it. Made a mistake there. Hopefully another opportunity comes soon enough for Newfoundland.
