I agree, but it’s fair to be concerned about the recent stretch of subpar play leading up to the playoffs. I have memories of us saying the same about… was it a WCE team or a Twins team, maybe before getting swept by the Kings…? Somewhere back there – we had a good season but poor play before the playoffs, and it carried through. Everyone was convinced we’d turn the corner when it mattered – we just didn’t.

I don’t know if that will happen here – I’m hoping this game is a rock-bottom moment where they realize the playoffs start now, and you’ve got to get your game tuned up in a hurry.

I can give some leeway to the idea that they’ve never been in this situation – leading the league for most of the season as you coast towards the playoffs. Maybe they’re having trouble learning when to turn it off and on. As long as they figure it out and get rolling, and soon, all will be forgiven.

But I’ve been a fan too long, and we’ve been bad for too long before this year, to be surprised by this. I never fully trusted the team when we were riding high at the ASG, and I sure as shit don’t trust them now. Last year’s team was bound to show itself at some point. Best way to enjoy the team is to try to withhold expectation as much as possible and just enjoy the ride, see what they can do. I expect nothing, so if we get anything, it’s easy to enjoy 🙂

For me a lot of it isn’t that they « can’t win against too teams » I just have doubts about how good they are at generating offense. I don’t really have numbers to back it up, but it feels like if they aren’t getting a lucky bounce they can’t get more than a goal or 2 a game. It’ll be enough when Demko stands on his head, but it doesn’t feel like a consistent way to win a series.

Sure, but you can’t deny that we’re limping into the playoffs. That’s pretty important to consider.

    APR 2: L 4-1 vs VGK
    MAR 28: L 3-1 vs DAL
    MAR 25: L 3-2 vs LAK
    MAR 16: L 2-1 vs WSH
    MAR 13: L (ot) 4-3 vs COL

5 of those 8 wins were against basement teams, the team has been limping badly since the allstar break against all of the western contenders leading into the playoffs, you cant be this ignorant as to why alot of fans are weary as hell from what we are seeing, and starting off April getting assblasted by Vegas isnt helping the case at all

I swear to god people on this sub actually prefer when we are a bad team so they can bitch and moan about it.

I follow a lot of sports teams, and this is by far the most toxic, insufferable fan base I’ve ever come across.

Canucks had a rough February and have had a see-saw March, but I just can’t understand being a doomer at this point. We’re certainly a beatable team, but we’re also totally capable of winning.

So many people in this fanbase have the worst mix of depression and rage, it’s all or nothing for these fans—82-0 or 0-82, cup-bound or destined for a sweep. If we do end up winning in the post-season, we’re still going to lose games, hell we’ll most likely lose 2-3 a series. This is a game where ten grown ass man slap titanium sticks around on an ice surface to try and coax a vulcanized rubber cylinder behind guys wearing foam armour: anything can happen.

But hey, there’s one upside to being a pessimist:

If they lose, you’re not that upset because you were expecting it; if they win, it’s a pleasant surprise and you’re thrilled to be proven wrong.

You think this is recent? Vancouver fans have been this way forever. You will hear more bitching and moaning now because the team is WINNING and all the fair weather fans are back.

« And you’ve been without your Vezina candidate starting goalie almost that entire time. »

We are one win under .500 over the last 25g with 7 games left. Obviously the team wasn’t going to play at the clip it did for much of the season, but there have been too many nights in those 25games where we have looked tired or haven’t played a full 60. Sure it’s late in the season, we have a few injuries, but that isn’t an excuse to try and coast. I really hope we can make a run, but this team feels like a paper champion and not built for the playoffs. I hope they prove me wrong.
