Just to be clear, I liked all these players when they played for us, but none of them were/are true 1Cs.

Prime Mony would’ve been an insane 2C

Dont worry we will get a true 1c at the draft when the flames win the lottery and get Celebrini (let me be delusional)
Comfortable-Ad-7158
Including conny was definetly a choice.

We may have different definitions of what a ‘1C calibre player’ is but from the looks of it, ur thinking of a Mackinnon, Matthews, Draisaitl type of player as 1C calibre.
When u consider the complete game that Lindholm brang during his tenure here, he definitely was a 1C imo. A very versatile player with an elite 2-way game, while still doing great offensively (aside from the past year).
Not every 1C has to put up 90+ points in order to be deemed a 1C imo

It’s like the Flames come so close to having an elite 1C but just can’t get over the hump. Mony and Lindholm in their primes were both better than a 2C but were never good enough to be included in the elite conversation.

I will not stand for this slander against moneyhands or GMCC!!

You left out David Moss, who B. Sutter deployed at center on Iginla’s line. David Moss.

That’s why I don’t think we draft iginla this year. I really think we will go for a #1C potential player this draft. Catton or Lindstrom fit that

Lindholm was great, but in hindsight he was heavily carried by Tkatchuk.

Ooof. This hits hard, as much as I love all these guys.

Where’s Olli?

Oddly Daymond Langkow had excellent possession stats into his 30s so he might be at least quite underrated

Ugh, so so true.

Mony before injuries wrecked him and lindy with Johnny and chucky were solid.
Despite all the negativity around here we had built a solid contender in 21-22 that had we gotten a couple chances at the post-season with may have done some more damage, it’s pretty rare for a team to go super deep in the playoffs with their first post season on a current core (it still looked pretty different from 2019 IMO)
But sutter souring things and Brad fucking up the contract situation in years prior slammed that window shut earlier than it should’ve been

zero marc savard slander is acceptable. that man is a king

Just curious, and this is legitimate question, not giving you any shit, but what is the criteria you would use for a 1C then?

A simple and repetitive answer, but even though it’s technically possible, it’s also high likely we’ll never ever win a cup without a bonafide 1C or elite center depth. You’ve probably heard this shit hundreds of times but almost all cup winning teams are all built down the middle with the pretty obvious factors:
* Elite Wingers (Kucherov, Rantanen, Ovechkin, Kane) to enough wing support
* Solid to elite d-cores (obvious)
* Elite goaltending (obvious)
* It’s one of the most HEAVILY common themes if you go back to arguably the last 50+ rosters with Stanley Cup Victories. The only exceptions include the 93 Habs (Roy effect haha), The entire Devils’ reign: 95 Devils (trap gods), 2000 Devils (depth, defense and goaltending), 2003 Devils (Nieuwendyk was old asf, Elias was never a top 10 centre IMO, just a solid guy that could hold his own respectfully) and arguably the 2007 Ducks (Pronger + Niedermayer pairing, Macdonald had a career year that year, never regained that production again + Sophomore Getzlaf )
Teams that don’t have that true 1C often find it hard to transition nicely through the neutral zone, maintain possession to a lesser extent or work down low. The only fucking way you attain an Elite C is by tanking, lucking out and drafting one. It’s that simple, some dickheads in this sub can cry about their hatred for losing and their overall disdain for tanking but trades, long term extensions and the nature of free agency in this league guarantee the low percent chance of actually acquiring a bonafide centre at any point in a window for a core. We’ve seen some pretty bad rebuilds in Ottawa and Buffalo and they can lose alot of money for owners but that entire process of gutting it down is the only realistic way of actually contending in exchange of having sustained success IMO.
I’m not sure about the sentiments yall had during our Playoff years but I certainely knew the Flames never stood a chance with how mid their depth at center was + Gaudreau being a mediocre playoff performer with 2 exceptions (2015, 2022). Kadri/Monahan/Backlund are all players who should be slotted down a lineup on any other team.
