Let me know your thoughts on the Coyotes News, quite a mix of reports today
Sweet clock. Totally true.
Whenever they get this deal done, you have to add 2 yrs for them to build the arena, that's what it took to build UBS arena!
Why don't they just relocate somewhere that wants an NHL club!
Over the years, it's been proven over and over that an ownership group is critical to success.
It irks me to no end thinking of how Pee Wee Bettman gave up on Québec city almost right away yet, it is chance after chance after chance with a city that does not care, plain and simple.😡🏒
AZ signed a new contract today
Thanks for the update on this, Mike. I think that this is getting exponentially more ridiculous than The Islanders, when The Late Charles Wang wanted to do The Lighthouse Project on The Nassau Colliseum ground area. At least Wang wanted to move forward (& is likely one of the reasons that we have The New Belmont Racetrack Arena). Although I know that Gary Bettman wants to keep The Arizona Coyotes in The State Of Arizona & I feel for Arizona Residents & Fans, it's getting to much to have to be hearing about this on A Daily Basis & it appears that these Owners haven't done much in Their Own Defense & this has to end (hopefully, they can do something & keep them, but, if this goes on much longer, I'm of the view that they need to relocate the team. I think that Quebec Or Hartford should be considered, especially given, in Quebec & Hartford, there were loyal fans). Let me know what you think.
the state vets the bidders for the plans and financials to be allowed to bid
I think the owner was counting on a bond issuance and now that isn't going to happen, he is scrambling for his parachute. I see this team in receivership and another failure on Bettman's report card.
And the beats go on
Phoenix has been a bust ever since they moved. Time to call uncle and move on. When they left Winnipeg wasn't coddled this much nore were the Nordiques. Its time to get rid of Gary and Bill.
Betman disaster 😂😮🎉
But is Bettman still reasonably confident in this ownership group?
Take any reporting with a grain of salt that doesn't come from Craig Morgan when it comes to the Yotes. With that said, Craig is clearly a fan, and biased toward positive news, but there's no one around the Coyotes more on-top-of-it than him. As far as signings go. It seems like a fool's errand to engage in contract talks, from either side, with the auction looming. Seems to me, the players and their agents would be the ones holding back on contract talks until there's a more solid plan in place for an arena. That would be more logical than "the team isn't allowed to pursue contracts". Although I think Meruelo made some seriously bone-headed moves with both Glendale and Tempe situations, it seems to me like he should be taken at his word he's committed to keeping the Yotes in AZ. So, I think you're probably right about entertaining offers being a plan B,C, and D. (more like D,E,F, at this point) Could also be a move to keep the league at bay if he's worried they might jump in and force a sale. Covering bases. All in all, I think we'll see an auction in June and not much news before then. Any slip-up, or delay though, and Utah has a new hockey team starting in 25/26.
There are no conflicting reports why the Coyotes left Glendale. Kevin Phelps, the Glendale city manager, is on the record, multiple times, as saying the Coyotes’ lease with GRA was not renewed because the Coyotes would not agree to a long term extension.
Sam Lipkin signed his ELC today. Frank Seravalli knows as much about the Coyotes as he does about exercise and nutrition.
Read Craig Morgan’s article- every question you posed at the end had an answer within it.
This has been going on for over a decade. Move the franchise. It is a joke they are playing in an Arena smaller than ECHL teams.
@TopShelfHockey Let's say the Coyotes don't win the auction and do move. Do you think in the future, 2030's or so, the NHL expands back to Arizona, and the Coyotes start fresh back in Arizona with new management, or there is a new team name in Arizona? What do you think?
Mike why do you always listen to Seravelli and Friedman ? They deal in hearsay and rumors.
The proposed land is right by my house. You're right it's going to need a ton of infrastructure its bare.us locals don't no anymore then what Bettman imply etc. I know they were devasted about Tempe not working. They left Glendale willingly. It didn't work there for he hockey fans too far out. I am getting nervous now when I hear about no d man contracts for next year. For the first time I'm getting nervous and worried.
What do you mean they don't have any defensemen signed? They have Shea Weber locked up for 3 more years.
Thanks for the update–things don't look good for the Coyotes staying put in AZ, based on the current situation.
This is beyond the pale. Poor handling of the team by the owners and the situation by the NHL . Ridiculous. I feel for the players(!). .and the fans it's a good team that could be much better! Pretty much have lost inrerest in this fiasco. Thks for the updates updates tho
I knew the Coyotes situation would end in a disaster. The sooner the NHL relocates this franchise the better, but at this point the NHL might have its hands tied with a rogue owner. I won't be surprised if the NHL ends up suspending the franchise, as Gary will want to control any relocation and force Merulo out. Moving forward the Coyotes can't put a team on the ice if they can't sign players and meet the salary cap floor.
Mr. Bettman, we do not think it would be unreasonable for you to impose a minimum season ticket base on the Coyotes before one single shovel goes into the ground on this project.
I mean, what's the point in a new arena being constructed in the desert only to draw Mullett Arena-sized crowds?
Remember, you work for the owners and a number of them are getting tired of propping up this turkey.
"That prospect probably won't play in the nhl" I'm assuming you mean sam lipkin, and im not sure if you meant career or just next year, but he has been on an upward trajectory ever since he was drafted. Round 7 draft puck, then captained the Chicago steel with a big year, followed by a big year with quinnipiac where he was a big part of their first ever championship. That same season he made the usa wjc team, pretty rare for a 7th round pick. He finished his college career a point per game.
Not saying he'll be a star, but i can't doubt the kid after how far he's come in just a few years.
