Parekh and Iginla rose super fast, it’s crazy. And I stink believe Buium is underrated, yet it’s difficult to make an argument to place him any higher. That top 10-12 is loaded.

I also thought Parascak (43G + 62A = 105 pts in 68 games) would be a few spots higher. Good target for the Habs maybe (usual disclaimer : I am not a scout and therefore talking out of my ass here)

You know what, I just want us fans to be a bit skeptical about these rankings. This year’s draft is a bit tricky and the forwards that are sought after will end up being top-10 in rankings. Also, what makes elite prospects think Tij Iginla is the prospect the Habs want? If Ivan Demidov and Berkley Catton are available, why not them? Even Lindstrom, Eiserman, and Helenius I will look at more than Iginla. He has his father’s name but other than that, he hasn’t shown that he’s at that top-10.

Gonna be a very interesting draft day. I’ll be happy if we land Iginla or Catton (which is looking most likely), but I’d also be fine with someone like Parekh if Hughes simultaneously trades for a top-6 forward (which I think he’s going to try to do regardless).

  5. Manofoneway221

Lindstrom so overrated would be a late 1st if he was 6’

  6. I watched their video for the first 20 picks. Not impressed by how they rate prospects honestly.

Iginla is having himself monster playoffs, I would love the Habs to draft him. Honestly, I like a lot of the prospects we are in reach of this year, even Helenius which isn’t very popular here. I also trust the scouting department to assess if the weaknesses of some of the top prospects eliminate them (Catton being weak, Lindstrom’s back and Eiserman being one-dimensional)

I think we’ll get a really good one here. Can’t wait!

  8. I’m going to say that Beckett Sennecke is going to be the draft steal.

  9. boutch255

Boisvert with the Winnipeg pick wouldn’t be bad at all

  10. We need a Cayden forward so hopefully Limdstrom slides a bit. But really though – Tij is the perfect pick. We lack depth on the wings. With Farrell and Beck and Kidney coming up we are good at C.

  11. Seb_Nation

Parascak is the new Hyman, sign me up if he’s there when we pick.

  12. Eiserman 11th 🥴

    – over a goal per game all year

    – one of the highest NHLe rates all told

    – one of the youngest in the draft also

Also elite at u18s last year as a 17 year old

  13. Longshanks123

Lindstrom has been steadily climbing these lists despite being injured between December and like a week ago … that’s kinda odd

  14. Longshanks123

If Yakemchuk were to be actually available at 18, it would be well worth trying to trade up with Winnipeg’s pick to get him. I think he’ll go higher though.

  15. Habsfan_2000

The pace of development for these players is going to be all over the place which we should be familiar with watching Slaf

  16. Physical-Asparagus48

I could see San Jose, Chicago, or Anaheim opting for a D if they don’t pick 1st. We may have some great fwd options at 6 or 7. Maybe one of Demidov or Lindstrom slides (my bet would be on Demidov). I don’t think there is any chance we take Eiserman, he doesn’t fit what Hughes/Gorton have sought out at all. Guy is a complete no show outside the O zone.

  17. gauderyx

Je veux bien que le niveau soit moins haut dans la LHJMQ, mais c’est difficile de croire que de toute la ligue aucun joueur ne mérite d’être sélectionné au premier tour.

  18. Kiiiriin

Cole Einserman fall of grace is something. He was a strong consensus #2 for a long time. What happened to him this year?

  19. WintertimeLivingEasy

passing on Catton for Iginla would be a terrible mistake

    neither are physical

Catton is faster, can play center, plays better in his zone

If they like Iginla so much, they should’ve drafted Leonard a year ago.

  20. j-sadmachine

I wouldn’t mind drafting a d-man. I know we have a super strong prospect pool for defence already, but it’s easier to get good forwards in free agency than defence. Plus, we already have a solid top-6 forwards coming together (give it 2 more years)

  21. Habsfanrebuild

Where is Surin on this list, Do we have a shot at him with Winnipegs Pick?

  22. That list should change dramatically with the U18, for the better or worse.

The CHL/NCAA playoffs also seems to have weighted heavily here.

Iginla is getting undue hype IMHO. He’s not better overall than Catton. He’s not the 4th best forward in this draft class. Some team will burn themselves by picking him in the top 10 and I hope it’s not us.

  23. greasydrg

Interesting that the Recrutes guys are so much higher on Yakemchuck than Elite Prospects, I wonder what they’re seeing differently

  24. The___Colonel

    I really like Iginla.

His edgework and physical awareness in the corners is really good, and it could be argued that it is the most important skill at the NHL level. His compete is high and he attacks the middle of the ice consistently – he is not afraid. Tij’s shot is really good, but more importantly he *gets open* really well; he communicates to his teammates where he wants the puck and uses his edges to adjust himself properly. His frame is good at 6’0 186lbs. I think the Habs have him high on their list, based on their typical draft profile. All he needs is a little more footspeed, but not even that much. Easily correctable.

Catton is an excellent player that I think the Habs have high on their list. However, he is really small for a center and I think his playstyle would not adjust well to the wing. I’m sure someone will reply « But he is 5’11 170lbs! That’s pretty big! ». No, it isn’t. His frame is small and weak. Furthermore, he won’t ever be a 200lbs player like Suzuki – Suzuki has always been a ‘thicker’ player and used his frame throughout juniors. Catton isn’t physical whatsoever.

Catton has one of the highest hockey IQ in the draft though. I really like his vision and passing, and his shooting accuracy combined with his release is deadly. He seems like he could learn very quickly, but his lack of physical stature means he won’t be a top 15 center in the NHL (Look at the top 20 centers. The smallest C’s on that list are Brayden Point and Suzuki – and Catton is much closer to Point – my point is that he is an extreme outlier).

**TL;DR**: I think Iginla has more translatable skills to the NHL than Catton, and he fits the Habs profile. He will be a top-6 winger, I’m almost completely certain. However, Catton has much better vision/playmaking and overall hockey IQ. His lack of physical frame and ‘daring will’ to attack the middle of the ice gives me big questions.

Iginla might be with us. Would be cool.
