From what I can tell it was just the hood, not the lens.
It isn’t the first time a camera has been hit, even one time going through the camera hole directly. But this is the first time a camera has been hit inside the area of play.

A. Just because you only saw a lens hood pop off, doesn't mean the lens wasn't also destroyed.
B. Watch the video, you can very easily see there's a filter that also came off, and those things don't just "pop" off.
C. Insurance is a thing. Regardless of what was destroyed or not destroyed depending on what you believe, this guy will be fine.

That's an expensive mistake lol. I hope he got an amazing shot to make up for the new lens he now needs to buy lol. So long as the shot was good ,the lens is a worthwhile sacrifice 😂
