1. I almost hope they don’t so they fire him my fear is they just barely make it and we have to deal with another year of this spineless whomp that the players don’t respect

  2. I like Newsy as a person. He is smart, a good communicator and generally a successful student of the game but he's not a fired up, motivating personality type like Torts or a thinking machine like Cooper. As the team gets younger, they'll need a strong, decisive leader who can advise, motivate, reward, punish and experiment boldly and often. Lalonde hasn't yet shown himself to be that guy. Example: the benching of Sprong should have been a 1 game statement but its no coincidence we're been on a slide since Newsey replaced him with Czarnik

  3. what does it matter if they make the playoffs or not, he is obviously in over his head. his is his first time as head coach and obviously cant handle a veteran roster and has no clue how to adjust strategy or line ups

  4. The team just isn't very good. No elite talent. GR has depth pieces no real star talent. No top 3 picks is the difference. Changing the coach won't change that fact

  5. I think Yzerman has given Derek enough rope to hang his stint as a coach. I think he let him post line-ups that, while Derek (foolishly) thought would succeed (i.e., bench Sprong, Maata) and yet keep Petry in the mix, proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Derek just isn't grasping exactly what needs to be done.

  6. This idea that newsy gets fired os just totally off base. Yzerman is more patient than alot of fans like him to be. What makes people thinks he's going to be more demanding of a 2nd year head coach? "OH, no playoffs your 2nd ever year? You're gone!" It's a bone head idea. The only reason a coach get fired in the middle of season if if the team had sky high expectations and they didn't live up to them. Tells where those expectations were for the wings at the start of the season? Think about what Yzerman said at the trade deadline about not trading young players and picks.

  7. I feel like Lalonde is done no matter what happens, unless the Wings go on some kind of miracle run and win the Cup and all the players give full praise to Lalonde for making it happen. Clearly I don't see that happening though. Still hopeful for the future of this organization with Stevie Y at the helm. Being out of the playoffs for a solid decade is enough! We need to start a new 20+ year streak if being IN and another dynasty with 4-5 cups in that span. 🙂 #LGRW

  8. Don’t think lalonde gets fired. And if he’s replaced we need a coach that can coach younger kids cause we’ll be having a ton coming up … think we don’t make the playoffs , pens also 3 pts back now

  9. Godfather III. I think Newsy should be fired if Yzerman lost faith in him. Lame answer but Stevie is calling the shots. Objectively though something is up with this team. The March collapse was dare I say, historic.

  10. Only 2 years in. Showed improvement both years. Potentially a Playoff Team this year. Could be fired? This doesn't have anything to do with Sergei now being available, does it?

  11. I don’t think we should fire him regardless. I know we’re getting restless on not making the playoffs but there continues to be progress. Lets not also forget that even at this teams worst, the defense Lolonde inherited was miles worse than that. There’s growing pains across the board sure, but making a decision like this seems kinds rash. Idk just my opinion

  12. He has done a terrible job and needs to go. Besides being a spineless wimp who lost the locker room in the Ottawa/Larkin fiasco and not driving accountability whatsoever (continuously playing Petry and DeBrincat after his disappearance) what is the deal with playing Fabbri, Peron and Compher on the first power play unit with Larkin instead of Raymond, Kane and DeBrincat….JUST INSANE!

Hopefully the team misses the playoffs and Lalonde is fired instead of getting swept as the 8th seed.

  13. Jeffrey is right. The East Coast teams should play out west during April to avoid rainout games.
