In the same season, Kariya would also become the first Duck to ever hit 100+ points in a season, finishing with 108. Only Teemu Selanne’s 96-97 season total of 109 points is higher in franchise history (Selanne was 26 at the time).
Kariya is the only player in Ducks history with multiple 100+ point finishes, eclipsing the mark again in 98-99. If not for his shortened third season, he would have had three (finished with 99 points in 69 games). Kariya also owns three of the top 5 all time best point totals in franchise history. He also sits a top of the franchise in points per game (669pts in 606 games = 1.10), and goals per game (300 goals in 606 games = 0.50).
He also did all of this through the dead puck era. If he were in his prime today, I have no doubt he could have put up at least one 60+ goal, 130+ point season.
Paul Kariya was the franchise’s deadliest Duck.
