@Blackhawks de Chicago

1. but bedard isn't even fully developed yet at 18… Imagine him at 21.
Faber is also on a playoff contending team while bedard is carrying a team at 18

  2. Faber should at least be considered in the voting, but he does have considerably more of a line-up to work with and the advantage of 3 years in the Minors to hone his skills, hence the trust for TOI. The Fire Sale in Chicago last year in pursuit of Bedard gutted the team and the GM did little to provide him any kind of a supporting cast! Bedard came straight in as an underweight 18 year old with no real protection from his team, but he still finds open ice and scores or sets up his teammates. Faber has 4 players on his team with more points than Bedard. Bedard has the most points on his team playing 14 fewer games. Good points for discussion and consideration, but I still think Bedard is your winner.

  3. I don’t think bedard is half as good as the talk all I heard this offseason was about the kid I don’t think he deserves the calder

  4. Ima tell yall this. Wild sabres 2029 cup final. Wild and hawks in the WCF and sabres and Canadiens in the ECF or Carolina

  5. Honestly that +2 damn and keeping pace on assists with that ice time.

I gotta say… I would vote for him over my fellow Canadian…

As a Former defenseman your stats can look under whelming when out against a forward. But when you look at the value added… I like Faber.

I did not even know he was a rookie…

  6. If you take into account the teams that there both on too. It’s still bedard by a long shot in my eyes. Yes he’s a d man but bedards a few years younger and on arguably the worst team in the league and still producing. Not taking anything away from Faber, it’s incredible what he’s doing. But what bedard has done it’s clear for me

  7. It is really hard to compare but I'd honestly say Faber should win it. I don't think people realize how impressive it is in your first year to just slot into a playoff contending franchise as the NUMBER 1 defenseman and excel as well as Faber has. I don't think any current #1 defenseman in the league ever did what Faber is doing for the Wild rn. (correct me if I'm wrong tho)

  8. I've been saying this in Calder convos. Faber is doing a harder job then Bedard. Being a topline dman on a team that was close to a playoff contender, rather then top center on a terrible team. As one just needs to put up points while the other has to be actually effective defensively, and play huge minutes, plus pointing up the points to go with that. Faber has had a more impactful first season for his team

  9. In that trade with the Kings, the Wild also got a first in 2022 who had 19 points in 26 games in SEL. Which isn't too bad either for a young player in a men's league.

  10. There's another late bloomer of a D that never gets mentioned in this convo : Jayden Struble. Way way more of an underdog than Faber and Bedard ever were at the start of the season (which he started in the AHL) and still, he did so well after being called up he's been with the team ever since: 52 gp, 3 goals, 5 assists, +/- of only -5 (to put it into perspective David Savard is -4 in 55 games, Mike Matheson is at -27 in 77gp).

  11. The difference for me is Faber is a phenomenal young dman but players on a decent blue line with some vets, Bedard is in a tire fire with little to no help offensively, he IS their offense. One guy is a key peice on his team and position, the other is the only piece lol

  12. Faber is on a much better team which inflates his stats vs Bedard.
This one isn't close. Bedard is the easy rookie of the year.
That doesn't take anything from Faber.
    It is what it is.

  13. Look guys, I get it. You can throw out plus minuses (Which is funny because someone just mentioned how Lemieux was a minus 33 in his rookie season) and the fact that Faber is a stud all you want, but Bedard is legit the entire reason the hawks have much of an offence xD. Yeah, they aren't winning all that much yet. But that's what happens when your entire team is literal trash outside of a few players.

Faber is looking to be an amazing d-man, but that doesn't change just how much impact Bedard's gonna have on his team and the league when they get just a few more guys to fill out that roster.

  14. Just to point out that Luke and Brock are a few years older and it's quite obvious on their physical development side of things. Although they are rookies, only one of them is straight out of high school.

  15. Connor Bedard is easily winning the calder trophy it Shouldn’t be a discussion. Faber and Hughes are having great rookie seasons, but they are defensemen and it is really hard to win the Calder as defensemen. Also the NHL votes on points then production on the ice for who wins.

  16. Bedard is still a lock but this makes me realize i’ve never really gauged how good faber or luke hughes are defensively

  17. As a wild fan I fully expect Bedsy to claim that Calder. But had Connor not been drafted this year, seeing how much better Faber is compared to a healthy Jared Spurgeon, Brock Faber would be my Calder favorite

  18. people some how also forget bedard is on a team that waaaaay worse than the wild so theres also that and nobody seems to bring that up but it effects a rookie season greatly.

  19. Great video. The better player is the player that can play both ends of the rink in their respective roll. The +/- reflects the difference in team player skill.
However, Bedard is the 'new generational talent' supposedly. He will get differential treatment, especially to keep Chicago fans in the arena.

If Bedard wins, it's not because he is only 18, it will be because they are trying to keep interest in a struggling franchise. It's obvious who the better player is.

  20. Faber is also from the draft after jack Hughes and is 22 years old with better teamates
