You could have misinterpreted that outside noise comment. He could have been referring to everyone saying they were going to be good before the season, so they assumed they were already good enuf. Dahlin even said something to that effect in some post game interview.
As I posted in the scrolling side chat moments ago: If one such as George Steinbrenner were to own the Sabres, would HE put up with this slipshod excuse for "effort" on a constant basis? If you remember his history well, you'd KNOW that by now!
13 years is the average lifespan of a dog, the Sabres could of got a dog mascot in 2011 and it would of already had its full life and the Sabres didn't make the play-offs that dogs entire lifetime.
Granato's job is safe because the owner is oblivious and Adams doesn't have the balls to fire his friend.

At what point does the NHL actually look at this and put pressure on getting things turned around or they'll have to step in? I know that might seem extreme, but if I am running a league and see that a small market that certainly can bring in ratings against competitors is in a never-ending doomspiral and the owner isn't turning it around, I'd want to step in and get some answers.

I Think Sabers Need Coach Changes
The Sabres aren't a bad hockey team. They sometimes beat good teams convincingly. But the Sabres are a weak team that has a psychological fear of success. Last year they were in a playoff spot for one day and they promptly fell apart . This year they faced a crucial road trip and collapsed. In the darwinian environment of the NHL weak teams get eaten. Heaven help us 🙏 😢
Appointing Appert as HC would be the same thing as appointing Rolston the HC. Brind’Amour is having troubles with Waddell. Also Adams is very good friends with Rod. If that’s not possible bring back Nolan.
While they are not a horrible team, they seem to favor a No accountability culture. I agree… Mental weakness. Zero consistency. Couzens is a featherweight forward who needs a porkchop or 20. The playing from the whole team is beyond bad. Dahlin earns his money. Who else is consistent? Thompson should man up. We won't coddle him like his coach does. If you don't want to play then go somewhere else. The goalie can only do so much and UPL has saved their butts from pure embarrassment time and time again. This team is all around bad up and down the bench. Granato isn't a NHL caliber coach. Nothing to do with Diggs. The owner needs to make a decision now.
I suggested going after Stamkos in Free Agency midway through this season. Won’t happen, but I honed in on him months ago as one of the leader this team needs.

If they don’t want to fire Granato and pay him for nothing, I say, sit him down and offer him a different job in the organization at a coaches salary. He is a smart hockey guy, just not a Head Coach. He’s loved by the organization, so keeping him around won’t piss the players off and we can give it another shot with a better coach

Team needs a veteran hardass coach and Adams needs to trade or sign some VETERAN UFA forwards!
Hopefully Adams will make these moves this summer but i have a bad feeling he will replace expyring contracts with prospects and he will bring back Daycare Granato and his misfit coaches as Adams and Pegula will say the team regressed which is common for young teams to do! God i hope im wrong. Either way it should be an interesting summer as i think Adams is also starting to feel some pressure as he will be going into year 5 under his tenure. Miss the playoffs next spring and Adams could be out of a job!
