It’s easy to be doom and gloom, and rightfully pissed at how this season is ending, at the moment. And bigger picture context is important about the future of the team. But this seems to zag at the far other end of the spectrum into delusion.
Chuck Fletcher and the previous administration set a very low bar. I think there is still a lot of wait and see with the moves Briere has made (and didn’t make), and this off season will be a better test of how well he can actually rebuild. I agree he and Jones handled some difficult situations quite well and that gives me confidence that they’ve got a steady hand.

What a joke of a letter. What exactly have Briere and Jones done to rebuild? Two trades. Provorov and Walker. Not enough.
From the letter:
“The 2023 trade deadline was the last straw. The team had multiple players on expiring contracts while being out of a playoff spot. Many of these players would have been good pieces for contending teams. Fletcher made ONE trade.”
How was the 2024 trade deadline much better? Just change “multiple players on expiring contracts” to “multiple players with no long term value to the team” and you could say the same for this year. Somehow Briere and Jones got deluded into thinking that we should try to win a playoff round this year and took their eyes off the long term goal. So here we are. Same old mediocre team. Players that are at best complementary players on a cup winning team but we treat like franchise cornerstones.
We will see if they make major moves this offseason. I’m not holding my breath.

Dear Ron Hextall,
Thank you for finally admitting it is time to take things slow and truly rebuild. Your Coburn trade was great to start the rebuild. We really appreciate your transparency!
Dear Dave Haktol,
Thank you for taking this team from a bottom 10 team to Game 7 against the Presidents Trophy winner. You had the team playing meaningful hockey at the end of the season and set the culture.
Dear Dave Scott,
Thank you for overseeing the transition after Ed Snider’s death. With the progress this season, you have shown you’re ready to carry on Ed Snider’s legacy!

This sub is ruled by junior high school students who don’t understand how a rebuild works. I blame Hextall and Fletcher.

I’m glad they seem to be on a better path but I feel no need to send a letter to the management basically sucking them off. This is way over the top. A lot of us have been spending money (game tickets, merch etc) and time on this team for decades. I’m feeling okay about their trajectory but that’s where it ends. What is the need for this brown nosing?

Has the culture really changed if we’re still getting spanked by the bottom of the league in meaningful games? It was a good run. I had fun watching the team this winter, but damn every single player has looked at best mediocre and at worst completely washed up over the last month or two.

Embarrassing.
