1. the golden knight era is over and probably will never come back first round out this year and they are near max salary cap enjoy becoming the nevada nothings

  2. Bouchard is all but useless without the support of the Oilers. Eck took him under his wing and showed him how to be a defenceman. Really, put Bouchard on any other line or team, and he does half as well at best. Eck is, without question the best defenceman on the Oilers.

  3. Fuck, Ekholm was my absolute favorite growing up with no team near me. When he got traded I wanted nothing but the best for him and he’s done just that. He’s so good both ways. Glad he’s being recognized.

  4. Hockey is a little bit like military, you don´t need the best player for your team but the right player for your team.
And people easily forget how much of a dumpster fire Oilers defense was before.

  5. That anonymous player's opinion of Ekholm is hilarious. I wish we knew who it was, I would have to assume it's someone out of Calgary or LA who got their feelings hurt.
Peak example of "just because you play a sport professionally doesn't make you an expert".

  6. I never heard of Ekholm till he got traded to Edm. that's how under the radar he was in Nashville. He's been the best d-man on the Oilers since he arrived.

  7. Being a Bruins fan and living in Atlanta, Ekholm was always a joy to watch at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. I enjoy watching him on TV more as an Oiler than watching him live in Nashville. He would have been a great replacement for Chara. Oh well. Such a great player. One of my favorite NHL defensemen.

  8. Yeah….don't forget 1 week prior the Oilers had their own stick they rec'd on the butt end….Dallas W 5-0 They burned that tape and moved on as I suspect VGK will as well.

  9. If you don't "put too much stake in plus/minus", you also don't understand the game of hockey. Trash analyst.

  10. Nurse should take lessons from Ekholm on how to defend a 2-on-1, and how to take a man in fromt of the net instead of screening the goalie trying to block shots in the crease. And stop flopping to the ice in an effort to take away the pass. That works less than 50% of the time, and takes you out of the play 100% of the time.

  11. Ekholm may end up being the boost to that D core that wins them the cup. Im not positive still, im not sure they have THAT guy as their number 1 like a Keith in Chicago, Hedman in Tampa or Makar in Colorado

  12. plus minus is a stat that doesn't matter until it get silly in either direction. +43 in one season is a silly number

  13. people who say mcdavid is the sole meaningful player on the oilers just dont really know what theyre talking about, or much about hockey honestly. its really not the "mcdavid show" as much as it used to be, and its definitely nothing compared to whats happening with my man Nikita Kucherov. lines without mcdavid have produced extremely well, and we have multiple players who work so hard to keep the game going and create plays and opportunities without mcdavid around to work his magic.

  14. Arturri lehkonen was traded to the avs in 22 and proceeded to score the western conference clinching goal and stanley cup clinching goal…

He's easily my pick for best trade deadline pick up for the last 15 years!

  15. If you average out Nurse's contract with Ekholm, Bouchard and Ceci it seems like a pretty reasonable price for a top four. Obviously this has some copium in it because when Bouchard and Draisaitl run out in two years, and Ekholm runs out in three, it's going to look REAL bad. I don't think they can trade Nurse for equal value, so he's in there for the next seven years. Not to mention needing to negotiate McLeod, Holloway and Foegle too. I don''t know much about their prospect pool, but it's been THIN for picks recently, so I don't feel like anyone's coming up to make a big impact anytime soon, including Broberg.

  16. I couldn't agree more. Holland took a lot of flak for this acquisition when he made it, with many armchair pundits saying he should have traded for Erik Karlsson instead. But if you look at the stats of these two guys since that trade, you know that Holland absolutely made the right choice–and nailed a killer deal here.
