As a REAL goaler (from the 80s), I don't need my D to block the puck BUT, I do need him to get the F out of the way so I can lock my eyes on the blast from the point of contact – EASY SAVE. Shot blocking is the goalie's job, not the forwards or the D. Their job is to attack the shooter and make him pay much the same way D linemen attacks the quarterback.
Also, Lyon has to either grab the puck or clear it hard. Bad failure on his part.
