The old and slow thing is hilarious to me. That’s not a reason as to why they were playing the way they were playing. Simply put coaching is the biggest difference maker in this nhl. When you have a roster that’s not good enough but a amazing coach you get the flyers. When you get a roster that’s good enough with a amazing coach you get the rangers. Pretty simple that the isles have a good roster but not great but had a hot garbage coach in lambert that really put in bad habits to that team. Habits starting to finally be fixed by Roy and now it’s night and day.

Honestly you had to be insane to think we’d make playoffs at one point. I still can’t believe the crazy bastards did it

But it is true. We have survived on the back of our goalie.

He’s right. While I’m sure not one player wastes a moment of their time looking at this reddit, the doomers gloomers and negative nancies are an extremely loud minority that can drown out most everyone else. I myself have said it’s time to move on from the fourth line because they are banged up and their time has passed. But i’ve never wanted them to fail like so many others on here.

  5. I mean…just because we made it t the playoffs doesn’t mean we arent too old and too slow. This roster would be better without Matt Martin and Cal Clutterbuck at this point – they contribute almost nothing. Young guys with a drive like Maclean and Hudson Fasching are the way forward. We have a solid core with Barzal, Horvat etc…but we could afford some speed at the bottom of the lineup.

I’m all for them making the playoffs. They have to win a series for it to mean anything. I’m sure all the season ticket reps are calling everyone who didn’t re up with some story of how they will win the cup.

  7. kevinmac1120

He has every right to say that, they’ve earned it.

  8. turbulentcounselor

Come on. I am very happy they made the playoffs. It’s going to be fun, and I’m glad I was wrong thinking they would miss. But things got really ugly at times this season, and we got lucky that so much of the East also sucks.

Of course players are always going to believe they can make it, as they should

This sub was a nightmare in February and March to a point where I doubted a large segment of the people in this sub were even fans of the team. I get it was a rollercoaster season but the unnecessary toxicity was on another level

The night of the Blues loss, specifically after the 3 goals in what may have been 30 seconds, I said F this, I’m done watching the islanders this season. I ended up watching the next game anyway, which I think was the start of the first 6 game win streak. What a wild ride and radical shifts in hockey emotion the last two months

Funny thing is the prime pieces on this team are not old nor are they slow. This is one of those national broadcast hot take memes started by some media person who prob watched 5 minutes of Lee and Bailey playing together on ice like 3 years ago.

  12. wmarksuffolkny

Just gotta get hot at the right time and hope it continues for 16 games

  13. Throwawayboi91

Just because they made the playoffs doesn’t erase all the issues this roster has. Yes, they’re a slow team and some forwards are on the wrong side of 30. This isn’t a very skilled team, they need to play their game against the canes or it will be a short series. Special teams need to step up big time

  14. DefeatTh3Purpose

The team lurks this reddit. No doubt about it.

  15. Stockersandwhich

I think the Canes are underestimating this team. Remember the last time? Against the Pens and Bruins on our way to being a goal short of a cup final?
