For those that keep asking why Flyers pulled their goalie early, BECAUSE THEY HAD NO OTHER OPTIONS! They needed the regulation win, not an OT win. Scoring 5 on 5 with 3 mins would have been tough. So they opted for the extra skater. Honestly, I though they were going to pull him much earlier.
The flyers just made a lot of enemies today. And the fact that torts pulled the goalie at about the same time or even after the wings already tied the game with the habs therefore eliminating the flyers from playoff contention makes it feel even worse for wings and pens fans.
I like how the goalie was still pulled after the flyers were taken out. They’re basically saying, If were, out Penguins are out too.
Flyers did not play well and losing before all those games didn't help. As far as the Caps pens and wings to hell with them.
As someone who doesn’t watch a lot of hockey but loves that the capitals won a win-and-in, can someone explain to me:
1) why the first flyers goal didn’t count
2) why did the flyers pull their goalie tied with 3 minutes left?

Amazing, while Oshie scored de juro GWG, it is Ovi who scored the GWG de facto. Ovi's goal forced the Flyers to pull out the goali, as the couldn't go to OT from the points standpoint.

Lindgren in last part of the championship is incredible. Caps without his crazy saves in almost every match would be out & done 5 games prior. But he, Ovi, Oshi caught fire in last ⅓ of the whole championships.

Everyone saying Detroit deserved it more – caps beat Detroit twice in the final month, they had to beat Tampa, Boston & Philly in 4 days to close out the season and did it all in regulation, while letting only 3 goals in 3 games. Detroit BARELY squeaked in 2 OT/SO wins against a lottery team.
Even though it was very lucky to have the empty net oportunity in a tie game, they put themselves in the win and clinch scenario over Detroit coming Into tonight. Caps had one of the best records in the league in games that were decided by one goal, they play the low event, defensive games. There’s a very good chance they would win that one regardless of the empty net.
I can’t believe I just watched the two best games of my life as a red wings fan only to have THIS be the reason they’re not going to playoffs. Pulling the goalie on a tie game??? WTH Flyers!
Flyers knew and yet they decided to give the old man a chance for last playoffs for his career. He can't even score a goal on purpose anymore. All he gets is EN goals or like the one in this game.
So a referee dropped two teams from the playoff race with a delayed whistle 😀 that's a lot of power. Philly fan here. This sucks but also these things happen.
