You better give Yzerman all the credit for a team that was torn down by Holland!!! We’re still paying off terrible contracts!! The defense moves were to fill holes based on the cap resources. If anyone is to blame, its Lalonde. I’m happy with the season because we improved!!! Sam, how long did it take Harbaugh to get Michigan great???

  2. They didn’t control their own destiny, AFTER blowing an 8 point cushion for a wild card spot. The Wings moved forward by a decent amount, it’s the fact they sagged down the stretch that’s pissed everyone off. Including Yzerman, who I expect to do a lot in the off season to make sure the playoff drought ends.

  3. Losing twice against AZ and blowing a 4 goal lead against SJ doesnt happen and we're not having this conversation. That being said, Uncle Fester as HC is not the answer- we need 2 more D-men to ramp up. Yzerman is building a long term 10 year plan, this isnt like the NFL but they should have made the playoffs this year.

  4. Red Wings made serious improvements over last year.
They were fun to watch and will be better next season…

  5. Flannel has no idea what it means to be a 500 team. Yes we imploded with a 7 game losing streak but we also never should have won 6 in a row. What flannen doesn't want to accept has no bearing on this team

  6. Literally says they don’t want to hear the regression to the mean talk and goes on to describe Compher, Sprong, Veleno, and Fabri regress to the mean of what they typically score at over an 82 season.

  7. I'm not sweating the big picture. I'm not even sweating missing the playoffs, although that doesn't feel great. I'm not sweating the 7 game slide because thats in the past and the past is nothing to fear. Do you know what I'm sweating? Its the fact that less than a week ago, Derek Lalonde was sendiing a message out that we might not even be able to get back to this position next year and we havent even done anything this year……so thats already a low bar to aim for, and he just lowered it even more.

    Thats what I'm sweating on.

I'm not sure thats the message I really want to recieve.

  8. Flannel You can't be serious, are you? How quickly you and others forget that Wings hasn't had any lottery luck yet still the team came that dangerously close to making the playoffs for a defense you say is putrid. Yes, the offense carried the team for the most part but there was still some flashes of defensive plays that made some sort of small impact. The great Scotty Bowman once said: "The defense is the hardest part of a team to build". Can we get better defensively? Absolutely, but not at the expense of relinquishing our future setting the team further back. Ask Ken Holland how'd that work out? Yzerman literally said that there was at least enough depth and he was spot on. That amazing performance just needed to come in March. I still view this season as a success despite missing playoffs. They remind me a lot of the lions run where they came close to making playoffs but fell short because their fate was in another team's hand. Next season the lions made playoffs. The lions defense aren't good but have a great offense and came that dangerously close the Super bowl. See the correlation? I'm not saying not to do anything for the defense because Yzerman is doing the best he can with what he's able to do without lottery luck and without relinquishing our future. The Wings is capable, obviously. This is on the players not Yzerman. We are not going to relinquish our future (or assets) for short-term success. I'm happy with the Wings improvement this season despite missing playoffs. This season has been nothing short but remarkable. You're take is putrid. I'm so sick and tired of you and other whining about Yzerman

  9. Ya’ll are nuts. There was only a minor improvement. Results just out of the playoffs. Just like always. The team almost never plays a complete game. The goaltending was bad. The defense was bad. The team is horribly coached. They had a real hard time mentally. Even the last two come-from-behind wins they played like crap until the last second. But the coaching was the worst part. And I’m starting to turn on Stevie. This is his show. Even if they had made the playoffs they weren’t going anywhere. It’s still a below average team.

  10. Sam on Lalonde: No truth. Just talk out of your rear. No media presence when there are rumors about a different tone in the locker room. I don't care about the context of what was going on. Lalonde should've just made them win.

Flannel Sam can be quite the joke.

  11. The team wasn't expected to make the playoffs. Not even close. Not even a little bit. Stevie even said it out loud, during pre-season media availability, don't expect playoffs. So let's quit blaming everyone else because you got suckered into boarding the hype train and riding it right off the cliff. The fact is, we played meaningful hockey all the way up to the very end. That's a huge step forward. This offseason, we need to improve on D, and I have confidence that Stevie will try to do just that.

  12. The veteran goalies and defense men are a means to an end. They will be replaced by really good prospects in the near future. This teams roster will change drastically the next few years, which was the plan when you hired all these old guys. They are place holders. The real win here is the improvement of reymond, sieder, and edvisson. I agree with getting a new coach but thats about it.

  13. God it hurts my ears listening to flannel talk. Its like he doesnt watch the games and only cares about stats.
Sure, some of the d signing were "bad", but Id love to hear who would have been the better signing for good value at the time?
Also, as a middle of the pack team, they WILL go through stretches of win streaks and losing streaks. You cant blame the season on 1 bad stretch because you will go crazy. They could have easily lost games they were able to win just as much as they could have won more games they should have lost.
And, you really think Lalonde is really the issue because hes calm in the interviews and think hes the same in the locker room? You think he doesnt call out his players? He even said in an presser that he does call out his players and has hard discussions with them behind closed doors. Just because he doesnt publicly criticise his players doesnt mean it doesnt happen behind the scenes. This isnt the nfl. Coaches in the nhl are mostly calm during pressers and interviews and everything happens behind the closed doors.
Also you sign vets to help the younger players, its not like the nfl where a rookie can just slot in and be fine. If you do, you become Buffalo, just alot of young talent with 0 guidance.
You really think any of the guys in the locker room are just "happy to be here"? I dare you to go ahead and ask Larks, Perron, Copp that question and accuse them of just being "happy to be here". But you wont, so I guess you guys are softer than tissue.
How can you sit there and say the wings didnt take a step? They went from out of playoff contention at the trade deadline to fighting for playoff contention at game 82. Yes they ultimately didnt make it, yes, losing streaks, blah blah blah. But they learned some hard lessons this season and will grow from it.
God I cant wait for Neal and DMac to rip you a new one.

  14. Flannel made some valid points. In hindsight, Petry and Holl were bad, but they were a backstop because not everyone was sure about Edvinson recovery from injury at the start of the season. Not sure u could do about the goaltending, you dont mortgage your future for an old goaltender. Maybe there is a move to be made on one of Boston goalies. The only thing i blame Yzerman for, this year, was not forcing Edvinson in the roster quicker. I wanted him at the start of the year, and his growing on the team would have only improved the team, now and in the future.

  15. The Red Wings were one of the worst teams down that stretch, and right before that they were one of the best teams in the NHL. And guess what? They're a .500 team and they found their average.
"FIRE LALONDE THEY LOST TO ARIZONA TWICE!" Yet everyone is talking about the Caps coach for Jack Adams and they got blown out by Arizona 6-0 and 5-2

  16. Andrew Copp & Robby Fabri have to go…… Holl & chariot are trash and wasting cap space. (Also petry)

Sign a better second like center and another top 9 forward, outside of Sieder, Wallman, and Ghost. Get rid of everyone & bring other D-men in.

Continue to focus on defense mainly in the draft and sign another filler goalie to backup Lyon and Husso ( or finally addressing the problem helps).

  17. In the year 2024, how is it that the Flyers weren’t aware they were mathematically eliminated prior to pulling their goalie in a tie game?

  18. Inconsistent effort and lack of the coaching staff holding people accountable was a common thread throughout the season. In the end, that theme screwed the Red Wings. Lalonde deserves to be dismissed (but he won’t be)

  19. Hey Kyle Szwed, Larkin is not getting traded. That’s insane. He’s not only one of the best players he’s also the leader. Not to mention you’re not likely to get proper value for that trade. You aren’t getting 3 first round picks.

  20. Flannel has to go back to what ever job he had before!!!!! PLEASE STOP LETTING THIS MAN TALK!!!!! YOU NO CLUE ABOUT SPORTS BRO. STAY BEHIND THE SCENES!!!!!

  21. Flannel you dont know hockey man this is sad they recovered from that 7 game win streak and it came down to the last game of the year and the team has improved every year since stevie got here from 39 points to 91 points and missing the playoffs on a dumb tie breaker stevie has taken the shit show from holland and he has turned it around so much the bad contacts the no prospects he has cleaned up the books got us probably the best prospect pool in the nhl and with no lottery luck drafted seider who goes top 3 in a re draft and raymond who goes number 2 in a redraft and buddy stop harping on the 5 12 and 2 strech they recovered they won all three of there last games witch were all must win games and i believe they tied all three with under a min left won 2 in ot and the last one in a shootout they clutched up at the end of the season and showed they can fight and they wanted to make playoffs and that they wanna win no one is just happy to be there what a joke you would even say that the wings have always had something when there bad or good they work hard they put in effort every game dont give me that just happy to be here crap what a joke and lalonde is a good coach just because he is calm in the media doesnt mean he is like that in the locker room he has said he is hard on players holds them accountable and had hard conversations with them and he is a winning coach he won with tampa i have faith in him stevie chose him and yeah maybe stevie didnt make amazing dman free agent signings but there wasnt really manh available he added what he could and ya maybe we didnt need to trade for petry i agree with that 100 percent but getting debrincat and kaner a plus moves sprong and compher very good moves too the defense ghost was solid holl was awful and petry was ok edvinsson tho came in and looked very good so he should make the team next year overall we are really only in like year 3 of our rebuild stevie had to clear the books and id say with our prospect pool and the young guys on the team already we will be a dangerous team for 25 plus years agian and im looking forward to it i believe in stevie and you know what to be honest we kinda need more lottery picks to offset use not getting a top 3 pick but number 14 or 15 whatever we will have is brutal we chose to pick going for the playoffs and we just missed out so now stevie has to work his magic and pick the right player at 14 or 15 and then next year i know we will make playoffs

  22. Yzerman hasn't found the right head coach yet. Jeff Blashill was never going to get it done and should have been fired after his second season and Derek Lalonde hasn't proven he can get it done. Need a head coach with NHL winning experience.

  23. All the flaws this team had were there all season. This team was a peak and valley team. The whole season seemed to be broken down into streaks of run hot and streaks of awful. We never really saw what they really were, which is an average .500 team. Which is why they were so frustrating. Looking forward to what Yzerman thinks of the season and how well it matches what all the talking heads have been spouting the last 6 weeks or so.

  24. Flannel is insufferable to listen to. Dudes gotta punchable face if ever I’ve seen one. Fuckin statist nerd.

  25. When there’s no defense or goalies available for singing, you don’t have the pick of the litter, you have the left overs to choose from and hope they do good.
