  1. Maybe you should discuss how many of Draisaitl's points came off of the powerplay and from having played with McDavid. I bet you won't.

  2. With those 1-, 2- and 3-goal game point-% I started to wonder what records teams have in games that featured:
    5 goals or less
    6 goals or more

  3. Kings don't really have anything to lose. All the pressure is on the Oilers. For the Kings, it's about exceeding low expectations, while for the Oilers, it's about living up to high expectations. The Kings will be fighting for their lives for every inch. If the Oilers are playing the long game, trying to pace themselves for 16 wins ahead of time, they will be in trouble. I think Edmonton are rightfully favored but don't be shocked to see LA punch them in the mouth.

  4. The only thing that scares me is Talbot he knows how the oilers play he could steel the series. Skinner will have to be on top of his game.

  5. I really don't think people understand how much coaching was the difference in this series the last 2 years. I'm not downplaying the talent gap, and I'm not saying that coaching is going to lead to a different outcome now, necessarily. But it doesn't take that much to look beneath the surface and figure out how and why the Oilers were able to make use of their best players so well against LA.

You guys up North know this first hand – TMac only chases matchups, he doesn't initiate them, and he got his a** handed to him by Woodcroft twice. He chased that matchup all night long, and never exploited the bottom of Edmonton's lineup, while his own got picked apart like last week's garbage that didn't get to the curb on time. Hiller is systematically identical to Todd, but very different (at least so far) in deployment of assets. It's really the one reason this series is intriguing to me as a Kings fan, as I wouldn't say the Kings lineup is demonstrably better this year. Here's to a great battle!

  6. I would've rather played Vegas first round. Idk why. Maybe it's because LA will be super hungry to finally beat them. And even though Vegas loaded up and got Stone back, I feel like Vegas (with their new players) aren't as gelled as the Kings are. Gonna be interesting.

  7. Oilers in 5. That last game against LA felt like they had fully solved their style of play. I don't think the Kings have anything new to show them.

  8. 3rd time is the charm, Kings ? Not really. This is the year for Oil, until they meet Dallas in conference final. Oil in 5.

  9. As a long-time, serious Kings fan, watching nearly every game, and playoffs for the past few seasons……it is Edmonton winning the series. Edmonton will double-shift McDavid and Draisaitl as much as necessary to win the series, but at the cost of losing the next round when both are worn out. In addition, the Oilers are tough, dirty, and have actually improved the team during the year. The Kings are an absolute mess going into the playoffs. The Kings are a collection of players, not a team, as shown by the coach's inability to find players who play well together. No lines are set. Sorry, to digress, but the PLD trade broke the team. They traded away character players for a guy who has actually shown complete effort in maybe 5 games this season. He showed some effort in maybe 1/3 of the games, and zero effort in 2/3 of the games. It's like watching a dude actively working to not participate by pretending that he's participating. The only positive for the Kings is that the coach isn't McClellan so the game plan will adjust throughout the series. Edmonton in 5.

  10. Oilers win it in 5. I think the King's goaltending gets exposed and undressed as false idols, McDrai starpower overpowers the 1-3-1, and it gets heated with Kane earning a suspension going into the second round.

    Should be a fun one

  11. I mean if the Kings win this series they could be dangerous going forward getting the Monkey off their back, but the Oilers just have too much pressure this year not to give it their all here, I got the Oilers in 5.

  12. It might come down to the goalies. Skinner is not the type of goalie you can rely on in tight games, as the Oilers offense will bail him out a good deal. Talbot was the starting goalie for the Oilers for 4 seasons('15 – '19). He was a workhorse, but the team was never supported at the time w/ good d-men and good team defense. Despite age 36, Talbot had a good bounce back season. His numbers would have ended better had he not been played in 54 games. Talbot has a good playoff track record, where Korpisalo last season had almost none and looked shell shocked at times against the Oilers.

While McDavid/Draisaitl/Hyman are offensive juggernauts, there are ways you can slow them down. TMac was awful in line match-ups and it was a big flaw of the Kings losing the two previous times to the Oilers. Kings coach Hiller is better in that regard.

X-factor could be PLD and Byfield of the Kings. For the Oilers, the key might be how playoff committed will their high-skilled forwards be to playing good team defense. I think this has a chance to go at least 6.

  13. Taking EDM in this one for the simple fact of them having put in their time and paid their dues in the playoffs. This is not the same EDM team from last year, or two years ago.

They had a real wake up call in the first couple months of the season, and I think it did them plenty of good. They are going to be a force this playoff. LA, or whoever they meet.

Unstoppable? Obviously not. No team is. Do they have potential for a finals appearance? Eh………… I think so. This team looks playoff built.

  14. Gotta go Oilers in this one. Of course the Kings play that real obnoxious low event hockey style that can be a bitch to crack. Interesting matchup.

  15. Both teams have questionable goaltending so It’ll be a high scoring one like last year. Offensively though I don’t know if the kings can handle the oilers, especially considering the oilers can roll 4 lines now. I’d still say Oilers in 6 or 7.

  16. Yet another Oilers vs Kings matchup. They really need to change the playoff format, this is getting extremely tiresome.
