Just one game today. Rags definitely not unbeatable as Caps showed this year. Today's game was unfortunately lost in the second period. But as we all know there's a long list of folks who counted out the Caps this year.. Hoping for a big turnaround in Game 2!

Igor was not busy but he looks dialed in That's the first problem for the caps the defence at the blue line was tight for the rangers Second problem the Rangers were a blocking machine combine that with Igor and i don't see the Caps scoring no more then 2 goals a game more like 1. On any given night the rangers will out score them. That being said i don't think it will be a sweep. Rangers in five.
Solid performance by the Rangers today, but they must not get complacent. Remember last season when they dominated the Devils in Games 1 and 2, only to lose four of the next five games.
To note: last year, the Rangers were told to hold back and save themselves for the playoffs. Don't work hard, don't overextend. It cost them.
This year, they fought for the top, and made sure every team they faced felt it. Yes, they lost bad games from their play, but this isn't the same team that threw games away by not showing up. Those games were far and few this year.
Beware the Rangers. They mean business (better than your touted Stars).

Officiating was total garbage! I'm not fooled by the penalties that were called(Caps had 4 PP, Rangers 2 PP). I don't care that the Caps were not effective on their PP's. The more a team is penalized the more it has an effect on coach wanting run their regular lines. Refs wrongfully didn't call boarding on the Rangers, there 2nd goal came seconds later. Off a Rangers faceoff win, Rempe interferes/nudge elbows Malenstyn in the face, who has a direct line and is trying to pursue the puck. No call, a Rangers shot that ramps off a players stick shaft changing direction on Lindgren, who tried jumping up to stop it but it still went top corner and in. I don't care what the final score was or the fact the Caps didn't test Shesterkin enough, this was only a 2-1 game!
Yes as a Caps fan, I'm very bitter about the officiating! This is the 3rd Caps d-man to be knocked out of a game for a boarding that was never called(1st Sandin, then Jensen and now Iorio)! Teams scout video of other teams and I'm sure the Rangers have seen very borderline hits not penalized when done so to the Caps. The non-call on boardings give teams the incentive to cross the rules line with no fear of being penalized!
Rangers absolutely dog walked them! Very impressive first game for the blue shirts. Lets see if they can keep it up for the next 3. They played a very mature style of hockey today, I thought.
I felt Rempe manipulated his elbow positioning, but even with my previously noted bias I can't say that should have been a penalty.
Caps don’t belong here lol. Such boring playstyle too. I’m not trying to offend caps fans just calling it how I see it. They got a lot of ref favor and Ovey still didn’t have a shot on net. This team..lol
Caps power play was 8% for nearly the first three months of the season, which was historically bad. Then in the last two months of the season it goes to over 30% and carries them into the playoffs. Last night was the start of the season crew that was 0-4, held to a couple shots or none, and can barely get the puck past the blue line without turning it over. Kudos to the Rangers for keeping everything out of the center of the ice, but the Caps were exceedingly timid – especially after the two minute sequence where they gave up 3 of their 4 goals. They got their lone goal when they finally pushed something in front of the net and then Fehervary or Wilson (they changed credit for that goal at least a dozen time) poked it past Shesterkin. I wasn't that impressed with the Rangers. They came out a bit stiff and weren't able to get much going. But the Caps never pushed them and they did a great job of blocking everything around the perimeter. I thought I caught Shesterkin sleeping during the game a couple times because he had so little to do.

Caps looking tentative and scared vs the Rangers.. almost like a team that realizes they don't believe they should be in the playoffs, like as if a playoff spot was… idk, gifted to them and robbed the next team up of a playoff spot..🙄🤷

Game 3 will dictate where this series goes. Rangers always start fast and win the first two games, but if they struggle in Washington then it becomes a series. If they go up 3-0 it’s over for the caps.
