  1. I'd prefer not to see him. I know people see him as some sort of a savior to the season but that just isn't the case. The wings were doing better before he came actually. And yes, I know his point per game numbers were good but you also have to factor in how that affected the rest of the roster. It's no coincidence that Debrincat's points tanked after the acquisition and Raymond even had a sputtering because Lalonde had to fuck with the lines to see how Kane could fit considering you have to insulate a player like him with guys who can actually defend and retrieve the puck on the boards. He's going to ask for a lot of money and 3-4 years and when I think about where the team will be in three years, we should be contending, when I think about where Kane will be in 3 years, he will be deteriorating. His timeline just doesn't match up with the team's timeline. Right now it's easy to say "Pay the man! We have cap space" but that cap space doesn't last if you aren't smart with it. We need to (and will) resign Raymond and Seider. Soon enough we're also going to have our other youngsters looking for extension and it would be wise not to fuck that up because we wanted a one dimensional goal scorer on the back half of his career. Another thing that people aren't seeing is who else might be available… Stamkos is coming to an end in Tampa and Marchessault is likely going to be forced out of Vegas. I would take either of them over Kane in a heartbeat.

To me, this best case scenario where he actually plays 3 full years, fully healthy, with only a small amount of decline just isn't realistic. He played half of the year where he barely got hit and was honestly a defensive liability for his 5v5 time on ice. The likeliehood that such a contract fucks us over is way higher than it paying off. He was worth the chance this year and did what he was supposed to do, that doesn't mean he's a good investment long term.

  2. 100% There are obviously so much in addition to what he does on the ice that Kane brings. Raymond elevated his game after Kane came in, that's no coincidence.
On top of this Kane would probably be a guy that can help the organization alot after his career too. His understanding of the game and of players is 2nd to none.

  3. I think if they offer him a 3 year deal he will come back, i don’t see the wings bringing in another center there just not available, so it’d probably be better to bring in a top 6 winger to play with Kane and confer. Maybe trade for a Bryon rust or Pavel Buchnevich, something like that.

  4. I absolutely want Kane back and my thoughts were 5 million a year for 3 years as well. Perron is another I’m not against returning but he’d need to be much cheaper. I also feel Kasper would be an adequate replacement for Perron. Maybe Nate Danielson makes a good case for himself in training camp and can become that 2C and play with Kane. How many rookies do you think make the team?

Edvinsson should be a lock. And Yzerman also said he expects Berggren and Johansson to be on opening night roster. Berggrens already played 79 nhl games and Edvinsson 25. Do you consider Berggren still a rookie? Would Berggren, Kasper, Danielson, Edvinsson and Johansson be too many young guys on the roster? Mazur could also make a case at camp. I don’t see 6 guys making the team that would be insane but 3-4 maybe.

    Berggren Danielson Kane

That could be an enjoyable line but at the same time I could see Danielson starting at wing with a guy like Compher

  5. I agree that Kane brings that respect on the offensive side of things and would like to see him back for that reason. But this team sorely needs more players on the defensive side of things that the other team also respects. One of the things that made Datsyuk so special and we're so lucky to have had him is players on the opposing team feared him making them look silly in all situations. He didn't even need to have the puck, just being on the ice was enough. I don't know if we'll quite get another player like that any time soon, but adding some more defensive power to round it out would be welcome. Hopefully we see Edvinsson blossom into that as well as Seider continue to grow into that top D-man role, but I think we're also going to need help on the front end from guys like Kasper and Danielson.

  6. I don't like the posturing and the nonchalant "it WAS nice" but ok, negotiating ploy I guess. And if possible I'd love to have him back BUT — if there's whining about " I wanna play with Alex" then – no. They don't decide lines and FWIW–how many goals did Alex have before Kane, and how many after…..

  7. He should stay. But probably not? I like his play and skills. He also matches up well with any of the other players. My humble opinion to Yzerman is, keep the sob, he's worth it. The value is there…..IMHO, of course.

  8. Im not "hockey smart" but I agree with you 100%. SHOWTIME, Im a fan. He reminds me of part of the team the wings had when they won the Stanley Cup.

  9. I agree other players backed off him when he had the puck…for the first couple months. But towards the end I noticed defenses weren't so scared to play tight on him and were able to prevent him from making a play. Once one guy was gutsy or dumb enough to try to close the space between him and Kane and it worked, everyone else noticed and it slowly changed. I know this because it was something I watched very closely all year. He needs to get that speed and explosiveness back if he's going to earn that respect of players backing off again. If he can't do that, I personally don't want to spend the money on him.

  10. Moved to Fl in 08, and I love the young core but Kane made me watch like I used to watch Stevie Y back in the day.

  11. His end of season comments were all speaking about the team in past tense. Unless the Wings throw huge $ with term at him, I doubt he stays.

  12. I’d leave if I were him, Kane doesn’t want to play Dump and Chase hockey.
    this roster sucks,
and can only play that type of game..

I doubt Kane wants to play with losers like Andrew Copp, Czarnik, Holl, Petry, Fabbri, Veleno, Rasmussen, and Perron.
Thanks for playing as a Wing for a bit Patrick.
    That was great.

  13. The Patrick Kane experiment as a Red Wing worked out great for both sides. He helped the team flirt with a playoff spot and Kane used the year as a benchmark on how his hip surgery went. It was a win win situation. However, from a players point of view, what does Detroit have to offer? Money mainly but probably not a cup run in the next three years. Kane will be 36 (November 2024), a three year contract will take him to 38 almost 39 years of age? No team will sign him at that age for another two years. I think Kane will want to cash in NOW. One last contract with 4-5 year term to a potential stanley cup team. A last chance at a cup with a substantial pay raise. As far as playing with Debrincat? We all know players come and go. Who says Debrincat will be here for another three years. I wouldnt want to possibly jepordize my career on a friend who may be or may not be here.. Debrincat only had one more assist than he had last year. For these reasons, I dont see Kane in a Red Wing uniform next year.

  14. Gotta bring Showtime back. He's good for a good three years probably more. That's what this team is missing is a Federov, Yzerman, Shanahan, player you can always count on Kane can fill that position

  15. Just give him 3 and use it as an asset to attract more talent — get a better coach too. Use the coach as leverage to keep Kane. LaLonde is mid

  16. You should do a video on the 02 Wings comparing it to the Kane situation. Look at Hull, Chelios, Hasek

  17. Hire Fedorov, keep Kane, drop some shitty contracts, get some dope defense, make the playoffs. Let's go

  18. Kane is a Red wing! Where can he go and find love like he has found in Detroit. We love this guy, and we'll pay his asking price. And he's worth it…

  19. Kane mentally checked out a month ago. Watch his body language change down the stretch. He was either hurt or done.

He's a liability on defense and was mia during the Larkin injury month.

  20. Hopefully gone! He is and will not participate in the team defense required to win long term. He did have timely goals this year for the wings, however his total lack of defense and absolute unwillingness to battle anyone for the puck will not help the overall push to make the playoffs. Even Yzerman states in his year end address that that forwards need to participate more in the defense

  21. I want him bad so bad. Don’t leave me Kane. lol I know the feeling you’re talking about. That star power was back in Detroit, I don’t want it to leave again goddamnit. He looks so damn good in that jersey and I think he has a lot to do with Raymond’s offensive burst.

  22. We should certainly sign him. A good number is 3 year with a 4th option. Dollar amount is where the issue is.

  23. I’m not ruling it out, but I think he wants a longer contract than Detroit will offer. But that’s just me speculating, of course. Most of me wants him back, because it has been so exciting. I have had the exact same feeling of “anything can happen” when he is on the ice. The one thing that kind of makes me think it’s not 100% a good idea is that I think the Cat-Larkin-Raymond line is the future and Kane’s presence might mess that up.

I think Kane might want to help Buffalo reach the playoffs next year. Maybe that’s where he wants his son to grow up. They could really use someone like him on their team. I will surely keep a close eye on whichever team he joins.

By the way, I have started to get the same “anything can happen” feeling when Raymond is on the ice. For good reasons! Need to get his jersey! I’m from Sweden, it makes total sense. 😁🤩

  24. I bet money he gets an extension ,yzerman would make a big mistake letting him go with alll the chemistry and leadership he brings to this team it makes no sense for him to be gone too soon

  25. Wings haven’t had a FA player on the team like Kane since Hossa. Hossa made the core forwards (Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen) better, simply by creating space for the other players on his line. Kane does the same thing. Yes, he’s 35, but he still has hands that can dish and score, and his mind hasn’t gotten slower – he still thinks the game at a high pace.

If he isn’t offered 3 years or more at 5m+, he walks.

Holl was a horrible signing – Toronto was right to ride him so hard. Petry needs to go as well. Chiarot was a stopgap, but his time is done as well.

Keep Gostisbehere as an offensive defenseman. Walman and Sieder as 1D, 2D/3D.

And for goodness sakes, keep Michael Rasmussen healthy all season. He’s a heart and soul guy like Draper – not the most skilled, but doesn’t give up on a shift. #LGRW

  26. Yes! Sign him! They NEED his skills as a player, team mate, mentor. I don’t know what that deal looks like…3 years sounds like good compromise.
