They had no business winning that game because they have to business being in the playoffs. They simply aren’t a great team. Good sure but not great.
My only hope with a loss like this is that someone high up finally sees the light that this team ain’t it. You are looking at a high quality contender in one end of the ice and what looks like an AHL team by comparison.

As a Canes fan, gotta give Isles credit to get up 3-0 while being out-played. If the Isles can lock a game down, like the Canes, they would have won. Making the playoffs was a huge step for them. I think they can win both at home. I have watched the Canes go into a playoff slump in the past (less likely this year), so never give up.
Idc think long term bright future for you guys I was rooting for you guys to beat the Canes (I'm a cat fan) just take this series as a stepping stone.. Also refs really fckd you

As a Pens fan, this collapse was delicious to consume, however it's the playoffs. If the Isles somehow dust themselves off and feed off the crowd to take game 3 they are right back in it!

It wasn't a collapse. They were getting crushed the entire game and were very lucky to have 3 goals. It was inevitable.

This team does not know how to protect a lead. Canes are lucky. If Isles could, they may be up in this series. Roy was salty. First time this year. The Isles forecheck bothered the Canes. A 3 goal lead can be a difficult thing. They had no shots on goal and that was fine because they bottled up the Canes. Start Varley. If they go down 3-0 then Sorokin. That goal by Jarvis was a fluke. It was deflected off the skate. Not his fault.
The most gutless no pride team I have ever seen but its not new, take out the Barry Trotz era its the same garbage hockey since Dipietro was in net. They do not know how to put a team away they just sit back and let them keep coming hopeing that they can outlast them. With todays talent that doesn't work our defense has never been big enough or nasty enough. Any fan who buys and wastes money for this shit show is crazy. Its time to show displeasure I know I am done been watching this garbage hockey way to long. Remember how we were all conned about getting a new building (which wasn't needed just a cash cow for Cuomo) and how we were going to lure big names in. What they forgot to mention was they were and are still paying for Dipietro and at the time Yashin.
I have been saying all season that this roster is not built to win in today's NHL. The proof was written on the face of Rod Brind'Amour when he came out for the start of the third period…what did I see?….Confidence! He knew what was going to happen, he undoubtedly told his team to wake up and play the way they are capable of playing…and they did. The Islanders can play the next two games to the best of their ability but in the end it will still be not nearly enough to win. I have been an Islanders fan since 76…I don't want to be right about this team…but I am.

The Islanders suffered two consecutive losses in frustrating fashion. Despite showing promise in both games, they fell short of victory due to defensive lapses and missed opportunities. However, with the next two games scheduled at home, there is renewed hope for success. The team is determined to bounce back and deliver strong performances in front of their supportive fans, aiming to turn the tide and secure much-needed wins. Go Islanders!

This is how this team/season has gone. Anyone who watched this game saw this coming, especially after it was 3-1, playing not to lose is a death sentence. Had Carolina not hit the post/ crossbar 800 times the game would have been over sooner.
I guess now we go to a non confident Sorokin for game 3 to try and change the momentum?
To win 4 out of 5 now just seems a daunting task.

ive never seen a team not be able clear their own zone like this team they get beat every loose puck and even when it looks like they have easy clear they find a way to not get puck out of zone its unreal!!!! i have tickets for thursday and im 50-50 if im going to attend the game. whats the point they not winning this series they will be lucky to win a game
Isles were 81-0 in playoff history with three goal third period leads. Until last night. That never happened under al, barry. Too many slow old bums who can't keep up in third when younger faster teams get revved up. That would be like louzer trying to keep up with a modern day gm. It aint happening. Videos out today calling this 'legendary isle choke job.' Pathetic.
Hey Gil – To be honest as I watched last night's meltdown I just knew they were never going to overcome that gut punch and this has happened many times this season and it feels like they were playing Russian Roulette and the odds were not in their favor. They did what they wanted they came out withstood the Canes early push and they even pushed back and went out to a three goal lead but then they went into hiding and instead of being the Predator they became the Prey and with the Hurricanes being younger and quicker it wasn't will they lose the lead it was when and man to do it in that fashion hurts. There were too many passengers not contributing and I'm not sure we can recover and win our 2 home games but if we do it will be if Patrick Roy Injects some of our younger faster players into the lineup I'd start with Ishakov in place of Engvall or even Nelson and then Gautier for Martin and maybe even Chlowski for Dobson or Reilly and I'd start Sorokin at home. I know Dobson coming out sounds crazy but watching him get thrown off that puck on the winning goal haunted my sleep last night and on that same play Varly looked lost and that puck should of been an easy save even on the first goal Varly just stopped pushing out and made the fist save then watched the second shot go right by him. We are playing at Our Building in front of Our Fans on Thursday and they owe us an effort worthy of a team who battled to not only make the playoffs but finish third in our division and ain't no Hurricane Warnings up on Long Island This Week !
Perhaps the islanders took their foot of the gas because they were in fact out of gas. They had to basically run the table in order to get into this series and these are not young players you know.
There is one thing the islanders must commit to and to me its quite obvious….they must rebuild the team through the draft and that is a time consuming process but to me its really the only solution to making the team good long term….they need speed, youth, skill….I feel bad for this group bc for stretches they look really really good
