Anecdotal and small sample size et al, but he looks so damn genuinely excited on goals and comebacks and such. Would love to have him long term. Just have no idea how to make the dollars work while retaining everyone else.

Whatever happens happens. Not going to fret over this until the summer. He’s here now, that’s what matters.

I know they had a great relationship, but you’d think Guentzel would love an opportunity to be the alpha dog somewhere instead of 1B to Sid. I think he has plenty of untapped potential here. I think 45-50 goals is in reach but we’ll see if he wants to stay and be THAT guy.

I wonder how recent these anecdotes are.

Like was this his feelings before the penguins missed again?

Also plenty of folks discussing that he sold his house in Pitt already as well.

I think with a deep enough run he’s going to want to stay put. If he’s feeling good about being here, gel’s well with the team and he’s comfortable then I don’t see why even if he loves Pitt, he would go back to a team who’s not going to win anything.

  5. No shit he loves it in Carolina. It’s the perfect state and the perfect team.

I hope we extend him, but if he wants 8 years, I hope we don’t do that.

That being said, is also of note that the Pens themselves aren’t exactly swimming in cap space

He sold his house in Pittsburgh to Bryan Rust this past week. The ship has sailed on him going back there.

Retaining Guentzel means either trading Necas, buying out Kotkaniemi or letting Skjei walk. That’s in addition to letting Pesce go, since I think we’re all assuming that’s going to happen anyway.

There’s going to be tough decisions to be made this offseason, I do not envy Waddell here.
