@Oilers d'Edmonton

1. Where’s the love for Zack Hyman in the comments? Man’s been playing consistently this whole series.

  2. Oilers fan here, honestly game four was terrible for us. We got lucky with good goaltending. But our defense was awful, we wrremt physical, didnt have puck possession or shots on net. We didnt have expected goals for, nor especially good shots, just one good Power play, great goaltending and to be fair a stellar penalty kill (that last one the entire series).

  3. People keep talking about the lack of depth… but, all but 3 skaters earned points in this 5 game series against the #3 defense and #3 net PK in the regular season.

  4. They better win it now – we can’t have damn Vegas, Carolina or dirty tkachuk winning.

  5. Holland doesn't get enough credit for the teams he's built. Oiler fans are wacky with who they love and who they dump on.

  6. Man with Edmonton being improved from 2 years ago and Colorado not quite as good, an Avs vs Oilers WCF would be an instant classic series

  7. Kane impressed me the most. For about the last half of the season it seemed Kane wasn't playing, but he was. In the past couple of games he has made an impact with opening the scoring.

  8. I love the improvements Vinny made this year. He used to be a liability last year but now he’s using his size to his advantage and is more or less a very solid defensive defenceman. Of course he’s going to have plays where he’s will get cooked but that’s the playoffs and hes a good reliable defender. I am so happy for him and the leaps that he has taken in his game

  9. I've been following the Oilers since the Gretzky era; just an avid hockey fan keeping tabs. Ever since M. Ekholm donned an Oilers jersey, I've been impressed with his assimilation into Edmonton's scheme. To me, he's a blue-line stud. Final note: ultimately, the Oilers will only go as far as their goal tending takes them, and Skinner makes me nervous. Extremely.

  10. One difference I noticed this year from last year is that McDavid isn't killing himself to turn out a win. He's almost coasting and just making things happen effortlessly it seems. In the past two playoff runs, it seemed like he had more weight on his shoulders, more pressure, etc so he went balls to the walls and battled extra hard. This time he's more relaxed and just doing his thing, being efficient, staying calm and being the leader the Oilers need him to be. He will need to turn it up a notch next round though!

  11. Well since I'm still salty about the Kings regardless of who wins between Nashville and Vancouver, I'll cheer them on to beat the Oilers.

Kings need to change FO though three years of losing is not good.

  12. The two thing the Oilers have going for them right now, it looks like Vancouver and Nashville could go 7. Either one of those teams are gonna be tired and worn at the start of rd 2. And if the Oilers go to the wcf, whatever team Colorado faces, be it Dallas or Vegas, are gonna make it a meat grinder series. Whatever of those 3 teams comes out of the central is gonna be beat up. Time for the Oilers to learn to exploit those potential weaknesses. Would it be fun to watch a pure skill v skill between Edmonton and Colorado? Sure. But this is the playoffs, that's not likely to happen.

  13. I feel like the whole team, Beyond just MdC and Leo, have stepped up. We're getting good efforts from everyone and it is showing as well as being rewarded. Been an Oilers fan for decades & living in Edmonton I know the feeling of that disappointment when things fail and end but this season has felt different and I am here for it. Regardless of how they finish this year's team has a lot to be proud of and if they keep growing like they have it is just a matter of time until the Cup is theirs. IMO.

  14. As much as I want to see the Oilers win, I have a bad feeling about them going up against the Canucks considering they didn't beat them once during the regular season.

  15. Edmonton are going to get crushed in either this upcoming round or the next one if they make it. Without the PP they aren't anything special and they definitely aren't going to win a cup anytime soon. Still too dependent on McDrai.

  16. I don't think anyone outside of the Oilers' fandom (and even many within) realize the Oilers are a top 5, maybe top 3, defensive team since Knoblach and Coffey took over coaching. In most of the advanced stats, the Ekholm-Bouchard tandem are the best defensive pairing in the NHL. Desharnais really took a step up and the rest are not bad either (even the much maligned Ceci who is pretty good for a 3 million dollar defenceman). The Oilers had the best points percentage of any team since the coaching change and they have been dominant. They win against playoff teams, top 10 teams, and bottom teams. The only team they didn't beat was Vancouver, but 3 out of those 4 games were prior to the coaching change and the last one was a weird game with weird bounces that went Vancouver's way. If it is Nashville in the 2nd round, the Oilers will rock them. And I think the Oilers win in 5 or 6 if it is Vancouver. We saw with Colorado and Winnipeg that regular season success means nothing especially with the top 2 goalies out for Vancouver and the Oilers being much more defensively sound than Nashville.

  17. I’m a Holloway fan. That kid has great hands and speed, like a poor man’s McDavid. Thanks for giving props to him. Should be a great series against Van. There’ll be strong blood lust in Western Canada.

  18. Kulak stepped up for us, and especially Vinny Desharnais. Last year Desharnais had a god awful series against VGK, not really LA. Props we can play well against the great Canucks team. (Don't start a riot this time)
