Goalies looked so awesome back then. Now they’re just a lump of padding usually all the same color. Big fat square equipment.

When I was little, during the Dynasty years, I was such a terrible skater that my older brother and friends made me be the goalie when we played playground hockey. I had a very similar picture to this of Billy Smith on my wall in my bedroom, which is how I grew up and Islanders fan in St. Louis. Didn’t get to actually see them play in person until 1990 for my 14th birthday. When I turned 19, I moved to Brooklyn and went to as many games as I could. Isles for life!

Yeah. I made a post listing my top 5 favorite goalie masks for the Islanders. This was one of them.
