Craig Berube a remporté la Coupe Stanley et est toujours un entraîneur des moins de 500 en séries éliminatoires… Je ne comprends pas le battage médiatique à son sujet

I mean in four appearances he gets a cup and one year gets bounced by a stacked Colorado who goes on to win. Also St Louis started to age out once they won in 19.
No idea if he is gonna be leading the Leafs to the promised land. But he’s probably the best coach available, and this team needs a different look behind the bench. A different voice. Keefe has been great in the regular season but everything about this team is stale.

If Keefe go swept in 4 of the 5 first round losses we have with him, but went and won the cup in the other year, I’m sure we would be okay with that Lmaoo

but but cup…

I was curious how you can go 2-7 in the playoffs. But turns out 3 losses in the seeding round during the year we lost to Columbus, then losing 4-2 to Vancouver in the first round.
This year we lost to the worst first round team we’ve played (excluding Columbus, and Montreal), and I think that team is worse than any team St Louis lost to. Maybe Vancouver is close? Not sold on Berube but I am definitely intrigued
Edit: forgot MTL

I’m hoping Tampa is dumb enough to fire Cooper

The hype is because he isn’t Keefe. Not sure if he is better but I think people just want different at this point.
hockeyholloway89
I think the hype is because of who else is or rather isn’t available. Who else could we get? My dream is Brind’amour and Carolina get swept into him losing his job and we can somehow scoop him up! But again, he just isn’t available right now. Who else is out there? Woodcroft? McLellan? Galant? None of them jump out at me as a great option.
Accomplished_Low148
The thing about coaches is even if the coach may be worse in terms of X’s and O’s (which isn’t Berube’s strong suit) a big part of their job is motivation which is up Berube’s alley.
You may hire a coach that is objectively worse but that may not always matter because of the psychological change it may bring. That’s why teams usually see a boost in performance after a new coach is hired.

I think ppl assume he’s a hard ass old school guy who won’t take these young guys shit or be a pushover but seemingly forget that was the plan with Babcock and look how that turned out

Im not hard for Berube. I agree with OP. Brindamour/Cooper would be exciting. I think Keefe is a good coach but he’s done in Toronto. A new voice/vision is definitely a requirement going forward.

He’s a polar opposite style from Keefe plus he’s actually available and would probably take the job. I think that is where a lot of it comes from.
A lot of pipe dream coaching options are simply not available.
buddachickentml
He coached a team that was LAST in the league to a Cup, and they beat Boston to do it. That is enough of a resume for me.

I’d take 1 Cup for a sub 0.500 record all time.

I mean he won a cup that’s something right

Him and Keefe have similar styles too. I don’t get the hype.
Moe_Danglez
He took a team literally in last place in January and they went on to win the cup…that and he’s not Keefe is good enough for me. I also think that the main problem in the playoffs is Marner and not coaching. Marner playing at the top of his game was the key to winning the series, not coaching.

Paul Maurice also has a losing playoff record. Almost guaranteed 12-14 out of 16 playoff coaches per season will have a losing record, so that’s not really a measure of how good a coach is.
Berube got as many playoff wins in one season as Keefe has had his whole coaching career. It’s taken Keefe 5 seasons to amass the number of playoff wins required to win a cup.
Even if Keefe was a good coach (he’s not) it’s time for change. Unless they retire, every coach gets fired, even the best of them. It’s long been time for someone else to take the reins.

Any chance for Rod the Bod?

I don’t detect any « hype ». I think it’s just what is most likely right now so you’re seeing a lot of discussion over it.

Keefe does have a pretty legendary playoff record in the NHL
OnTheEdgeoftheForest
Pretty sure you can’t lose 7 times to Vancouver in the first round. 19/20 season is really 2-4. Which, presuming no other errors, would take his record to 24-24 or .500.

He’s just not Keefe.
I’m not particularly excited for any of the currently available re treads.
The pipe dream is Rod the Bod or Cooper.

Zealousideal_Shop446
I wouldn’t love the Berube higher but it isn’t terrible ( see senators Travis Greene). Obviously a dream is Brindamour and I would also look into David Carles interest in the NHL. EDIT: Carle is back as IIHF coach for USA so he isn’t an option.

Listening to him breakdown game tape made me realize why he’s doing that on tv and not for a team right now

Triple gold club member Mike Babcock is available if we really want to win

He took an already good team that was struggling in St Louis and took them to the Cup Final. Kinda sounds like what the Leafs needs.

Under .500 yes…
25% cup win rate per playoff appearance.
Depends how you look at it I guess, eh?
