Celebrini also just won the Hobey Baker award, which is the hockey equivalent of the Heisman and he’s the first ever 17-year old to do so in NCAA hockey history.

  2. You guys gotta get off the home town thing. He lived here for a year. Then went to St Mary’s. He’s not a sharks fan. He’s a canucks fan. He’s never even been to SAP.

That said, we do have a story here still. It’s just more the Warriors tie than it is a home town thing. Mack also has a cool relationship with Draymond which I assume will be used in promos.

  3. The Utah Hockey Club (formerly Arizona Coyotes) only had an average attendance of 4,600 a game since they played at ASU's arena. That was the worst attendance numbers in the NHL.

  4. Never imagined hearing Steiny and Gu talking Sharks hockey. Love it though, wish it would happen more. There's so much untapped potential in this market

  5. been watching hockey my whole life macklin will be a great player nhl players usually dont take over the league until they are 22-24 unless they are connor mcdavid the lebron of hockey. macklin will see some decent minutes his first 2 years nhl players usually peak at 26-29 years old. macklin will be a good player but hes not a generational talent.

  6. He's 17, "checked off all the boxes" on being an elite player (in a way the sharks have never had)

He's got a "solid" body for pro hockey (and he's only gonna keep growing, adding muscle, getting faster/better footwork)

The sharks are still gonna "suck" for a few more years but this vastly improves things. Let the kid (and other kids) cook for a bit.

But we already hit rock bottom, marginal improvements from here on out.

Oh and we're gonna have a crap ton of cap space soon!

Be patient… Something special is building.

I'm all for new "bandwagon" fans. In a few seasons, things will be as exciting as the late 90's "playoff bubble" era when we were just starting be a good team and perennial threat.

  7. Celebrini is amazing! There have been a few hesitant comparisons that his game looks a bit like Sidney Crosby’s… which you may have heard of Crosby, if not he is arguably the 2nd greatest hockey player in NHL history after Wayne Gretzky

  8. His family has been here for 5-6 years but Macklin only spent 1 year in the Bay Area before he moved to Shattuck Minnesota for hockey prep school. His younger brother RJ (12 years old) might be more of the homegrown player if he makes it to the NHL. He's also seen as a franchise player but not a generational player like Bedard, McDavid or Crosby.

  9. Celebrini is a franchise level talent. Plays on both ends of the ice, elite offensively, great defensively. He’s ready for the league right now.

  10. Appreciate you guys taking the time to talk about the Sharks. Funny that it’s because of a connection to the NBA. Bottom line, doesn’t matter HOW you get into hockey, just get into it! The draft is in Vegas. You guys should go and do a show remotely from there. You can interview Celebrini after he’s drafted. Get exclusive interviews with others on Sharks organization like Mike Grier, Randy Hahn, Dan Rusanowsky. You should get Brodie Brazil and Casey Pratt on the horn to talk Sharks hockey. If you’re hoping on the bandwagon, it ALWAYS better when a team is on the bottom so you can be there for the ride to the top!

  11. too young. hope he stays in college another 2 years. don't ruin him just to sell a few trinkets and tickets.

  12. MORE FANS THE BETTER! The Tank used to ROCK back in the day! Hockey is an awesome sport and we should encourage others to see how great the game is!

  13. So technically Macklin's hometown team would be Vancouver, but, the Bay Area you could say is like a second home.

  14. Macklin is one of the most complete players to come out of the draft in years. Him, Will Smith, Musty, Eklund and co are coming and we will see a sharks contending window like it was from 2000-2019

  15. His family has been out here for around 6 years, but Macklin only spent a few years here before heading out to play hockey in the USHL and then one year in College.
Edit: I commented before I heard the caller talk about him being a Vancouver kid.

  16. Did that guy on the phone say the bay area folks support their teams…….😂😂😂
Only when they are winning. The Giants almost left, the A's are pretty much out the door. 49ers games were sparsely populated when they sucked. The Shark tank went from capacity to a barren wasteland these last few years of Sharks suckdom.
However, super stoked they got the number one overall in a year when it's beneficial.
