    I’m definitely coming around to the idea of drafting a defenseman. Dunn is in his prime now but probably won’t be in 4-5 seasons. The kraken have used all of their 1st round picks on forwards this far and need someone to anchor the blueline as guys like Oleksiak and Larsson move on in future seasons.

    I feel like the pick may come down to Tij Iginla vs whichever of the top defenseman group makes it past the 7 teams in front of us.

    For reference, scouts largely agree there are 5 great defensemen available that will go somewhere in the top 10:

    * Levshunov (seems to be the highest regarded one)
    * Parekh
    * Dickinson
    * Buium
    * Silayev

    Personally I think if Silayev is on the board Francis goes for him. He’s like Jamie Oleksiak but even massive-er. Francis purposefully built a physically large D corps through the expansion draft so that appears to be his philosophy on D.

    If Buium is available, we absolutely should take him. But I am betting he goes top 3 or top 5. People can keep saying the Russians will be drafted over him, and to that I say, “You’re crazy, and you’ve never watched this kid play.” After the combine, his draft stock will absolutely rise.
