Blows my mind that he’s not viewed by players and management as a top Defensive player. In 2023 they had a top 20 poll that didn’t list him. In 2024 they had a player/executive poll listing the top 10 and he didn’t even make the honorable mention. However, Ekblad made the honorable mention in 2024. Forsling has been great in both of those seasons. He’s definitely in Barkov’s position when he was touted as the leagues most underrated player. Forsling has to be the most underrated. McAvoy has to be one of the leagues most overrated players by default. He was listed in the 2023 and 2024 list of top defensive players as like 5th best. Not sure how anyone can view McAvoy as a better defender when compared to Forsling. McAvoy played on a strong Bruins team but as we can see…. the Cats seem to have their number in games that count. Forsling is easily a top 5 defender with all things considered. He might not get 70+ points but he’s a #1 D on a team that gave up the 2nd fewest goals and has been a defensive powerhouse. +/- isn’t supposed to be a great measure unless its very disproportionate (very high or very low) but in the case of Forsling, it’s a pretty good indicator of his affect on his team. Forsling is just a great role player who gets the job done.
