I’m hoping Chicago picks up a UFA or two from the Canes. Bring our boy back, teuvo teravainen
I'd like to see the Islanders get Kotkaniemi, he's a big guy who may take a little longer to develop. We could use his size and youth, and he's faster than most of our current roster. salary is the problem.
They ain't beating my Rangers 😍😍😍
Carolina blowing that 3-1 lead to the Rangers was just like the Islanders blowing that big lead to Caroline to end up losing that series.
Now its up to the Rangers to pay it forward.
there is talk that B'rendamore might leave for the west coast
I think the Canes outplayed the Rangers, but Shesterkin stole the series for the Rangers. Carolina's problem is that Anderson and Kochetkov aren't anywhere near as good as Shesterkin. But how do you fix that problem?
Carolina is in a really good position to be a stellar team moving forward but they do probably just need an on-fire goalie for the playoffs. Freddie aint it.
The Canes need an elite goalie. If the Canes had someone like Swayman this year, they would have been unstoppable.
12:29 "It's a long time they are paying him, but its not s lot of money…"
I wish someone would buy me out and pay me > $400,000 through 2036!
Mannn if Freddy Andersen makes the saves he's supposed to (the first two goals against) they are going to Game 7
Hurricanes fan since the Whaler days in the mid 90s. They have to roll it back as much as possible. I know they have a lot of players to sign and have around $31M including the $4M raise over the summer. They have to sign Guentzel. Coming off a $6M contract, he's worth well north of $8M perhaps $9M. Bring back Martinook, Noesen, Pesce…basically everybody except Kotkaniemi, DeAngelo and Teravainen. The first 2 for obvious reasons, but Turbo will be demanding north of $7M. He's not worth it. Take his money, package Kotkaniemi with prospects and picks for Marner in a trade, then sign Marner for $10.5M. But Dundon is a notorious cheapskate, so maybe this doesn't happen. Regardless, watching Kotkaniemi has been like watching Semin, Puljujarvi Galchenyuk, Yakupov, et al. He was a mistake from the get-go. Trade him, or buy him out.
I can't believe Freddie let in that 3-2 goal at the side of the net. Make a save there, bud, and you have a Game #7 to cheer for and not a THG video…
Carolina won't want Marner. Mitch is too greedy, I think.
i wish they kept the whalers name
Nothing like buying out your grievance offer-sheets, eh?
There are teams that just want to make the playoffs 18 year cup drought not so bad
They need a goalie
Aho 26yo
Svech 24yo
Kotkaneimi 22
Drury 24
Jarvis 22
Necas 25
Teravainian is an old guy at 29, and stall pulling 35 bring up the average age.
People forget that this team missed the playoffs for like 9 years and was forced to play guys before they were ready due to a lack of talent.
Most guys prime cup contending years are 28-33 years old.
This is still a very young team despite having won at least 1 series in each of the last 6 seasons.
You forgot Jarvis as a UFA
It would be hard to imagine big changes not happening this offseason. They’ve been considered contenders for years now, and always fall short.
I'd buy them and move them to Quebec
If I'm RBA, I'm very seriously considering the option to coach for Seattle. Coaching a team with lower expectations, having a longer leash from an exec he has a relationship with all for more money is very enticing.
I love this team and so do many others in Central NC. Resign (highest priority to lowest) Jarvis, Guentzel, Skjei, Chatfield, Martinook, and Necas. Hope that there's room for Noesen and Drury. Take calls involving Andersen and Svechnikov. Buy out and cut ties with KK.
Nadeau made his debut at the end of the season after a fantastic year at UMaine.
@ 0:45 2018 to the year 2018 ?
The Phoenix Coyote have won a conference finals game more recently than the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Kreider Hattie was the greatest Ranger moment since Messier’s guarantee.
With that cap crunch and all those free agents coming up (mostly of the U variety), it goes without saying that things are about to take a hard turn for the worse in Raleigh. This was probably the Canes' last chance for a Cup for quite some time. As a Columbus fan whose team was in quite a similar predicament five years ago, I feel their pain.
Canes likely going to at least re-tool next season. 8 UFAs, 6 RFAs, no clear starter in net, and neither the GM nor the coach has a contract next year.
😔
Necas trade for Marner.
Not even the second half of the season. KK had 13 points in the 14 first games. Needed the next 80 games (playoffs included) to score 15
Maybe one of the most overrated teams for the past half decade
Canes are the Sharks of the East
The problem for Carolina is that their issues don't have clear and immediate solutions. Freddie once again proved he wasn't a championship caliber playoff goaltender when it mattered most, and I still don't know if Rod Brind'Amour's coaching style is capable of producing a Stanley Cup champion. If I were Carolina, I would buy out Kotkaniemi, move Freddie, and let both Pesce and Terevainen walk. Re-sign Guentzel and Skjei and extend Seth Jarvis. If the Hurricanes move Necas, what do you get for him?
kotk could go i think there are more productve players out there ..brett pesce should be kept..u see what happened without him…underated defensive player…anderson looked great coming off injury but looked shaky in all of the playoff games …i would have started kotc. in game 6 ..hes good but not experienced so he needs to play..lets hope some homegrown prospects and rookies like jarvis pop out of the system and they will be fine…u have to keep the core together if u have success otherwise its risky…cup or no cup success of making the playoffs keeps up the $$$
Good ole Freddy ‘Five hole’ Andersen…. Just killing Stanley cup dreams for a decade…
Seems like they are only 1 Defenseman and 1 Forward away really. Of course, they need to have good goaltending to go with that.
Hurricanes….you BLEW IT!
I heard the AI clip of Rod Brind'Amour saying he wanted to coach the leafs in the post game interview, lol. Lots of cap space to be able to sign goalie Markstrom on a trade at the draft.
Been canes fan since they came to Greensboro my home town I’m just glad they are competitive again and still in North Cak
Brady is the number one guy needs to stay then Marty Necas and Noesen. Maybe turbo if price is right. Goaltending hard Anderson was amazing last playoff and honestly think he got hurt jamming the post and making that save in the islanders series. Burns and Pesce being hurt (making TDA play) made Freddy work way harder in both series
When it comes to their goaltending, I hope they start to transition towards Pyotr as the number 1. Anderson is unrestricted after next year and they are grooming Pyotr to be the number 1 at some point. This past season he was really starting to come into his own. He is still just a little inconsistent but since mid-December, numbers wise, he was one of the top three goalies in the league. I think it's time for him to take over.
My cup pick is gone. I picked the canes to win in August I really believed in their talent and then they traded for Guentzel and Kuz and I thought it was gonna happen
I’ve been picking the canes since 2019, and I’m a blues fan
I love this type of video. Especially as a hurricanes fan! Thank you for making this!
I believe that we had the talent to have beaten the Rangers but doubtful that we could have gone much farther because of injuries (Pesce), goal tending (Rod's stubborn insistence that Anderson carry the load), an an abysmal power play.
Don Waddell has his plate full with a redesign of the team for next year. Several players need to be re-signed/extended: Chatfield, Martinook and Skjei for starters. I don't know if Jake Guentzel will re-sign but he would be a part of a potent first line with Aho & Svech. Pesce may not be worth as much as he thinks he is due to injuries but a team friendly extension would make sense. Would love to see us move Anderson if that's possible. I think KK is an enigma. I might give him one more year and see if he can FINALLY develop into a C that we need. A lot of moving parts going into the summer season !
It’s a pretty simple problem with Carolina. During the regular season, they play playoff level hockey while other teams play regular season hockey. Once the playoffs hit, the other teams turn it up a level and play playoff hockey and Carolina does not have an extra level so they are exposed as a pretty average maybe slight above average playoff team with mediocre numbers.
The only con of Brindamours style of coaching.
canes have to find a way to keep Guentzel dude is a goal scorer
Shorter than last year. Major changes incoming. That third period is certainly the most embarrassing period for a while for canes
As a fan since they arrived in '97, the RBA has hands down been their most consistently successful era so far. The other good/great seasons were flashes. However, like you pointed out, the playoff exits during his tenure bring about a lot of questions such as roster/players, coaching philosophies, and coaches. And the exits have been tied to special teams, offensive ineptness, and I can't discount injuries at the worst time(Svech, Andersen, Terravinen(sp?), Pesce, Fast…). Puck luck and hot goaltenders can only explain so much for the post season exits, but it curious that the playoff issues/trends only show there…and not really in the regular season. I really wonder if a roster overhaul to upgrade the talent is the best answer. But I think Rod has to look at his systems and playoff related breakdowns and change something, because it's been a consistent answer on the exits.
