If Pelley believes that winning equals profit, then he's on the right track. BTW nobody is touching JTs contract, unless you pay too much for someone to take it, so the only logical thing to do is let it run its course. Marner on the other hand can be traded without much cost, and maybe even a small return.
Leafs Ownership should take a more realistic approach. Based on the Core 4 playoff disappointments outcomes – the Leafs haven’t been a Stanley Cup Contender for 20 years.
Why doesn’t Leaf Executives focus on – work to build an authentic Leaf Cup Contender first. That means serious Leaf Core 4 upgrades first. The Leafs currently have the worst playoff record in the history of the NHL – and the Leaf owners are ordering the Leafs to just win. It is like ordering Charlie Brown to win – when he never gets to kick the football. 😀

That Pelli guy said same old talk. He said he didn’t know the 8 year history and just last 4 months. That is foolish. If he loves Toronto then why didn’t follow the team? He is dodging the reality of the situation. He just wants to extend his job by holding on to garbage for few extra years. Shanahan will go next after next couple of screw ups
Watch them get Marner to waive his NMC and ship him off to Tampa where he wins a cup, meanwhile we get Stamkos and Coach Coop. Who wins that deal????
Mark my words boys, if they trade Marner and get worse (which will probably happen), all of you will be complaining. Not saying he can’t go, but I think they need to start with Tavares and Reilly first. It may be harder, but personally I think it makes the most sense. 11 million dollars for a 65 point guy and 7.5 million for a 3rd or 4th defensemen. Sorry, but when they signed Reilly they thought he was a number 1, he’s not. If he was, we wouldn’t constantly be saying we need a stud defensemen.
Marner wasn’t great at all, but to blame everything on him or run him out of town is ridiculous. This is a team sport. They’re all to blame. At the end of the day, they’re all to blame. If Marner gets traded then fine, but the front office needs to try to trade the other two first.
Tavares is a great player and a decent captain, he’s just not the one this team needs right now. This city and team needs a hard nose and in your face type captain. Wendel Clark and Doug Gilmour didn’t win anything here, but we still idolize them because of how they carried and lead this team.

The Core 5 34,88,16,91,44 and you pick the one that is “not the problem but is our best player” used in every situation.
We insulate 91 and 44 and only recently started using 88 and 34 in more defensive situations. For those who can’t recognize defense it’s still interesting to me that
Marner is still leading the team in playoff points over the 7 years of 16,34,88 playing
Marner won’t leave because he wants to still be the MVP of the playoffs like he was in JR and is just entering his prime (27-32) and will perhaps have a defense that won’t give away the series like they have in the past

Clear defensive mistakes we teach in peewee that they have given up game winning goals on in each series ending game
Not a forward just a defensively responsible defender not doing his job
If they do do their job the forwards might have scored the next goal and won those games
Let’s fix the problem not shoot the best player because you don’t know who to blame
Not to mention the power play run by the coach instead of the genius players on the ice who make enough they should be able to figure out what to do to score
My favourite parts of the presser were when Shanahan said "blah blah blah" and irrelevant Pelley said "blah blah blah blah"
Leafs didn’t lose bc of Marner. They lost bc Matthews didn’t score again. And goaltending was inconsistent.
Well after watching Panthers tear apart the Bruins we should all know theres a lot of things weong with our team. Florida scored 11 goals in 2 games against swayman and we couldnt score more than 3. These players cant be superstars if you cant perform in the playoffs.
If Treliving came in and traded Marner right away, he would have been on the hot seat. He has to come in and evaluate. Also he's hoping Marner can get over the hump. Unfortunately he didn't. He's super talented. Willy was the whipping boy for years and had to get over his demons. Mitch was given more than enough chances and still hasn't come around. He's an asset. Get something you need for him.

They'll never be able to replace what 'good' Marner contributes. They don't have the D-men who can compensate for Marner's high risk plays that go wrong.
