Mt. St. Helens was Sunday morning. The next Saturday the Islanders won their first Stanley Cup on Nystrom’s OT goal. The Islander cup & the volcano are always associated together in my mind because I was a first year geology student in college and working in the Geo lab, volunteering with a couple of others to watch the USGS teletype for news of what we all knew was a pending big explosion. It was all a matter of when. A couple of nights I was in the lab listening on a little portable AM set to Clark Gillies and Terry O’Reilly in their classic series of bouts. One darker note on that day, Ian Curtis of Joy Division killed himself. Don’t know if it had anything to do with Mt. St. Helens.
big Avs fan here, I thought your review of the game last night was fine. the goal that was brought back should've counted, it was not goalie interference. Dallas was the better team, especially when Nichushkin got himself suspended. Only complaint I had about the game last night was the lack of penalties called, but that went both ways as it seemed the refs had swallowed their whistles and were just letting the players play.
Avs fan here – no hard feelings. I knew when it happened that it shouldn’t have been a goal. I have even been laughing about us being the first team to lose by 2 goals in OT.
