If Marner and Tavares sign an extension, then it's a very clear sign of coach and GM whose hands are tied by Shanny

  2. Here's hoping JT takes a very team friendly deal going forward, but Marner needs to go. Whether it's a trade this year, or just letting him walk in free agency next year for the cap relief.

  3. CJ saying nobody is going to have a problem with JT's contract or where he's at from a game play perspective? That's a wild statement. He's a 65 point, 11 million player who's in decline. Literally every team in the league will have a problem with that including the Leafs which is why we're discussing this in the first place.

  4. After last year, I won't believe any trade rumors until both Teams announce it.
I honestly don't think major moves are coming.

  5. I am okay with Tavares staying for the final year of his contract and then hopefully signing a very friendly team deal. I think the Leafs need to move on Marner. Free up that cap space this season and then whatever Leafs save on JT next year. With that cap space you can get a top goalie, a top defenseman and multiple depth pieces at the least.

  6. Honestly, trading Tavares because of the 11M is short sighted. I'm not saying you don't trade Tavares, but it shouldn't be because of 11M. It's one year. Ask yourself whether you want Tavares on his next contract. If you don't think he fits into Toronto's long term plans, that's fair. But if it's just the 11M, it's short sighted.

Marner is a problem because they can't afford his extension. Everyone knows that. Marner should be moved.

  7. I think Tavarez stays. Yeah, 11 million and all that, but think beyond the money for a second.

He's in the last year of his contract, and it's already established that he already took a cut so that he could play with Toronto. He's also in the latter half of his career now, his value is going down, that's just a fact. But he DOES still provide good value on the 2nd or even 3rd line.

Tavarez can be extended at a team-friendly deal that reflects his current value, and open up more room for the Leafs while keeping a talent in place.

That's why Marner makes the most sense to move. His contract is in the same spot, but unlike Tavarez, Marner isn't gonna be looking for a team-friendly pay cut. No, youll never get an equal value out of trading Marner, but that extra 10+ million in cap space alongside any players or draft picks (which the Leafs desperately need)? That's not nothing.

  8. Domi will take minimum if he has too. Hes got too much love for that town and that team to leave. He is there for Craif Berube reasons. Who has more heart and passion for the leafs than MAXIMUM DOMI
