1. It's been a fun team to watch! US verses Them mentality. Looking for more scoring from a few guys mentioned before. The shots against worries me heavily though. Best move of the off season was getting Davidson back.

  2. My guess is if Washington (outside of Ovi) continues to show their age a bit and Pittsburgh doesn't absorb the injuries very well, Columbus is 100% in the mix for 4th in the division, maybe even 3rd if Philly is a fluke. I haven't checked the schedule, but if they luck into a couple of games against the penguins without the big guns, that could make a difference.
Someone else has pointed out that they're winning OT faceoffs and able to maintain better possession with guys like voracek, hence the 4-0 OT record (with 1 SO win). They were a team that could regularly get games to OT with their defense/goaltending, but couldn't win them. That's already made a huge difference. Whether that translates to long-term or playoff success is tenuous, but points are points in the standings, regardless of where they come from.

  3. They're playing with house money. I think the CBJ aren't being weighed down by expectations right now, which I would say crushed them last year. New coach but a familiar face, lots of young guys wanting to impress, lots of players, old and new, stepping up in new absences, and a goaltender motivated beyond belief in Elvis. I don't know if playoffs are feasible yet, but they're a fun team to watch for sure.

  4. No matter how well the CBJ are doing on the ice, when the game is over they are still sentenced to live in Columbus, OH. It may not be hell, but you can see it from there.

  5. Being a middle of the road team would be a nice overachievement for this team.

  6. The Metro is the SEC of hockey. There seems to be much larger talent and record disparity in other divisions.

  7. Dubois was traded just wanted to add this he was my favorite blue jacket besides bob and Jenner

  8. They’re still near the bottom of the league in many predictive statistics. Things can always change, especially with their youth and new scheme, but their current path of shot generation/suppression will not get them to a playoff spot.

  9. I really like Torts, he's a breath of fresh air nowadays but ya he'll inevitably lose the locker room at some point and have to move on. Very Mike Keenan like but nowhere near the same level of d bag ness

  10. Korpi has had a great start, usually he starts and the team doesn't show up in front of him for some reason. So the simpler stats don't show that

  12. Nobody national will buy into the players on this team until they win a round + in the playoffs, as we’ve seen in the past.

As for all the player “subtractions” from the roster. Jarmo has moved assets, some of those were addition by subtraction.

Jarmo has brought better and better talent here year after year. With Johnson and Marchenko coming, this team has the potential to be a force for many years.

  13. Probably an unpopular opinion but I think Laine has not looked good. He’s got points but watching him play he has been disappointing at best to me, he is just constantly turning the puck over and honestly his line looked better without him. He’s got an amazing shot but is struggling with pretty much everything else. I like Laine and I want to see him do well but he really hasn’t been impressive at all. Hopefully he proves me wrong

  14. Love you Hockey Guy! Thanks for showing some love to the CBJ. Day one fan here. We have been through tome really miserable seasons. I'm enjoying this one so far. Fun team to watch!

  15. I think the Voracek addition makes this team what it is. A grizzled veteran that knows how to win and can teach the younger players how to be successful. With an entirely healthy lineup, I think this team can challenge for top 3 in the metro.
