  1. If they can get a goalie then he’s going to do really well there. Good coach.

  2. ESF-hockeeyyy

Happy for Chief Keefe. That’s a good spot if they can sort out their goaltending. Given how he was able to maximize the Leafs successes with the poor goaltending he had to deal with, I think New Jersey will do really well next season.

Honestly wish him all the best. He’s a good coach, hell maybe he helps them take it all the way, but things got stale here and we were stagnating in a bad place, it was time to move on. Good luck Sheldon!! Hope we trounce ya everytime we see ya!!

  4. JRocleafs

Good for him. He was an adequate coach for the Leafs team that needed a different voice and a complete structural overhaul.

Really curious to see what type of systems he runs in NJ and if he goes back to a possession based team.

Anyone know if this nullifies his impending contract with the Leafs? Meaning he will be off the books?

  5. sneed_poster69

MLSE probably happy that the money’s off the books

  6. Samurai1221

Glad he landed somewhere competitive. Should be a playoff team.

  7. Don’t mind me just eating some crow after saying I didn’t see him landing another NHL job

  8. Grand-Ingenuity-6460

The devils are winning the cup next year

  9. another_plebeian

Bro was out of work for… 2 weeks?

  10. 9AvKSWy

Looks like they have middling special teams that he’ll be quickly working to ruin entirely.

  11. I don’t have anything negative to say about him. It was time to move on but he help lead us to a lot of good seasons without lots of playoff success. I wouldn’t even be surprised for him to have more playoff success next year than he did in Toronto. Coaches learn over time but sometimes you can’t shift the message within the lockerroom. He gets a fresh slate in Jersey

  12. tuckertml

He will somehow score against the leafs next year

  13. shanster925

And now we can accurately predict the 2025 conference final will be Toronto v NJ, with NJ going on to win the Cup.

Seriously though, great for Sheldon and NJ is getting a good one.

Damn, Leafs missed out on their guy

  15. YarnhamSunrise

    Wish him all the best.

He’s got a hell of a new team to work with.

  16. Arcade23

Four years, that’s great, good for him, I think he’s a great coach just not a great fit for this organization anymore.

  17. TiredReader87

Good for him. He seems like a good guy.

  18. MomboDM

Legitimately happy for him. And with a very promising team, as well… im curious how they perform under him.

As glad as I was for the leafs to move on, he was always a class act right up to/including his farewell to the team.

  19. beesteaboyz

Can’t wait for the Leafs to come in first and have the Devils barely make the wild card spot to meet the Leafs in the first round and sweep the Leafs.

  20. Falconflyer75

Glad Sheldon landed on his feet he was a good coach the leafs just needed a new voice

  21. Happy for him. I do think he’s a good NHL coach. But everyone has a shelf life. Our PP wasn’t good enough and arguably other aspects of the teams play. It was time to move on for both groups. Wish him well….he cared about our city, our fans, and our players….go get em Keefer.

  22. noctisakashi

A lot of people apparently forgot this guy has been out coached every series he’s in and hoped Matthews or Marner would save him..

  23. DaisyFeeder

    Good for him.
He was always a decent guy…yet I legitimately thought Babcock was an assshole from Day 1.

  24. old-man243

Not sure why this is such a love fest for this guy. His idiocy and stubbornness contributed to the epic ongoing failure of this organization. Even worse, wasting the window of some of the best players we’ve ever had.

I wish him nothing but failure

  25. I hope they do a nice tribute for Keefe when the devils come to town 🙂

  26. You’re telling me he got more money to go coach in NJ? How are the leafs not a top 2-3 paying situation for coaches and execs? And NJ should be middle of the pack. What are we doing?
