Back in 1996, the Sabres misplaced the banners, which were presumed stolen when they were transferred from the Aud to the new arena.

They were thrown away with everything else from the aud. Sure a few were recovered from the trash, but they weren’t « stolen », this post is incorrect info. Understandable, given its referencing an old article from the era, but still wrong.
